Tongyeong (Korean pronunciation: [tʰoŋ.jʌŋ]) is a coastal city in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. In 2010, it had an area of 238.81 km and a population of 139,869 people. It is divided into 1 eup (town), 6 myeon (township) and 11 dong (neighborhood). Chungmu city and Tongyeong county were reunited in 1995, creating Tongyeong City as it is known today. It consists of Goseong Peninsula, Hansan Island, Mireuk Island and other islets. It was formerly known as Chungmu, after the posthumous name of Admiral Yi Sun-sin. The name Tongyeong means "command post" and is itself associated with Admiral Yi, as it refers to his principal base that was located on nearby Hansan Island.

The mural village is located on and around a hill not too far from the passenger ferry terminal. It's well signposted and a relatively easy walk up the hill - if you suffer with leg or back problems I would t recommend it though- it's pretty steep.
I went on a day when it was really hot and really busy so moving around was a bit difficult! There's a few different routes you can take around the murals- I'm not sure I got to see them all as the signposting once you're actually up there is a little vague.
It's full of cafes and there are a few gift shops too. A short but pretty diversion!

Has a statue of the great admiral Yi Sun Shin who was a legendary military genius in defeating Japanese ships in Korean history. Also, some notices are put up at the park but only in Korean. Nice place to go for a walk or to see some great scenery if you're in the area. We drove there and there were many locals taking pictures and enjoying the view, even in winter.

I found this cable car pretty high, thought I'd challenge a bit of a phobia by using a round trip ticket (10,000¥) The views are spectacular, we had a clear day and could see for miles albeit not to Japan. Lots of nice vantage points from the trailways at the summit. Could be worth getting a Cable Car up & walking down via the temples on the mountainside: this was recommended to us AFTER we got down.

A small island that's about a 3-hour boat ride from Tongyeong Ferry Terminal. There are 2 trips to and from the island, that makes a total of 4 trips per day. Quiet and peaceful, and there are different hiking trails to choose from depending on your desired difficulty level. Bring along some drinks and lunch, otherwise you can visit any of the cafes/restaurants on the island. Has a pebble beach, which you'll get to if you follow the trail. A great day to spend and beautiful scenery to enjoy, but make sure to visit on a day when it's not cloudy or foggy and you'll be able to see other Islands and Mountains in the distance.

One of the world’s most thrilling adventure activities has arrived in Tongyeong! The Skyline Luge is a unique wheeled-gravity ride that provides riders full control over their descent on a purpose built 1.5km Luge track. The only attraction of its kind in South Korea, Skyline Luge offers a fun-filled outdoor experience that is suitable for riders of all ages and experience levels.
This is a franchise from New Zealand and safe for adults to toddler. Luge using no engine and easy to control.
Many helpful staffs and we are pleased to find most of them can speak English.
Price is quite affordable, better not take a single ride.
It is popular and long queue at ticket counter but not much on the starting point.
First timer of the day must go to a separate line, to get a brief explanation and a stamp on the hand.
Down side, they should provide gloves too because the handles may cause some pain after a while. My 7yo daughter's hand felt hurt after the 2nd round.
As far as I know, this is the first one in the region. They will open 2 more tracks soon.

Private museum with collections of Hyuk-rim Jeon. No entrace fee but donation expected at the door ( but not mandatory). interesting collections for one artist over time. the building itself is also very interesting. hard to reach by public transportation but close enough from the old town of Tongyeong by taxi ( 10 mins). don't pass on the gift store!

We stayed at a guesthouse and went to Dara Park to see the sunset on a sunset tour. Driving up is highly recommended as it's a short drive out of the main harbour and you can get the best view of the sea and Mountains if the weather is good. Entry is free and there are places to grab coffee or snacks, and also a public restroom. Really nice place if you can get someone to drive you or if you're renting a car.
