This coastal city is one of the oldest in Morocco and naturally has a rich history. It is a big fishing port and a beautiful coastline near the less industrialized areas. The fishing port is definitely something to take a look at. Many vendors at the markets sell cool pottery, so have a look there.

Visiting on the recommendation of our cruiser Star Clipper, five of us walked out of the commercial port, through the fishing port and up the hill about a mile and a half in all to this extraordinary jumble of small kilns, clay prep zones, potters at their wheels and decorators a glazing the ovens were fired by tamarisk brush( twig and leaves)- a surprisingly small quantity - producing a fast firing.
We were picked up and given the tour by an alleged pottery artist and everything was amicable. We bought some items in the shop at British artisan prices without any haggling. however having done that we were then opportuned for the tour tip by the alleged artist. having just spent most of my available cash on pottery i only gave what i could and similarly others in the group didn't. want to payout a large amount as we had paid out for pottery anyway. We left in a steaming atmosphere and the artist left us alone after about a hundred yards. The long walk to the boat seemed longer on the way back but for the episode this was an extraordinary example of great work being done in the most non H&S way in poor working conditions.

We got a personal recommendation from our host in Safi for this beautiful hidden beach which lies between Safi and El Bedouzza. There are enough parking lots available directly near the beach and even in the afternoon, the beach wasn't crowdy at all. Only negative thing was that the water was incredibly cold - but that's nothing, you could make the beach responsible for. All in all, high recommended!

The curse of this coastline, the debris of plastics washed ashore. The proprietor of Le Riad du Pecheur, a surfer, was doing his best to influence the locals in clean-up operations to keep their beach tidy, but it was an uphill struggle - the mentality wasn't sufficiently aware of the environment to protect it or to clean up after the litter had been tossed on to the beach, off cliff tops like the entire coastal strip between Safi and Essaouira. Take the coastal local bus and see the surf, the beautiful sea, and then the trash strewn throughout the countryside and waterfront. Need for public awareness campaigns.

Supposed to be a landmark but not interesting in itself. The old pottery of Safi is far more elaborate

The Portuguese set out to build a Cathedral but built only a part, its tower now forming the minaret of the Great Mosque. The single chamber show fan vaulting with crests.

I took a long hot walk with a Moroccan acquaintance, Mustafa, to the Kechla, or Citadel, or Kasbah, which used to be one of the many royal palaces of the peripatetic monarchy - to find the museum closed. Nonetheless, we got into the Citadel itself, and were shown the courtyard and some of the royal rooms. We were told that the ceramic collection - mainly Safi wares? - MAY be exhibited temporarily downtown at the "palais des arts" before the restoration is complete.

Miasto w zachodnim Maroku, nad Oceanem Atlantyckim, jest miastem portowym. Słynne więzienie a obecnie mieści sie tam muzeum ceramiki.
