The holy city of Rishikesh, in the base of the Himalayas, holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for local Hindus. Sacred rivers and mountains set the scene for yoga and reflective hikes, and rafting here is an absolute must. The Beatles got in touch with their Eastern spiritual side here, writing several songs during a 1968 stint at a local ashram.

Kunjapuri Devi Temple is one of the most revered Shakti Peeths of Goddess Shakti in Garhwal Himalayas. This is an ancient temple located at about 1600 meters height. Beauty of this place is, you can see snow-clad white Himalayas and river Ganga (Ganges) from the same peak. The place popular for beautiful sunrise view with the Sun rising from behind the Himalayan peaks. Yogi Arwind Ashram and Kunjapuri Guest house are the places of accommodation. This place is perfect location for yoga, meditation, quiet retreats etc.
this is very old temple. it is 25 km from Rishikesh and way to reach here was memorable. if weather is good you will enjoy. dont try in hot weather.

Having experienced the AARTI in Haridwar, the day before, this morning was perfect for absorbing all the cultural movement in the Triveni Ghat area. This may be one of the best places in Rishikesh to relax along side of the holy, River Ganges, and reflect on where life is taking you. (Does that sound too heavy). Life is short .... enjoy it while you can. Safe travels.

This place is 30 to 50 minutes away from Rishikesh and has an interesting history. The cave itself is rather small, it cannot accommodate a lot of people. It was an enlightening experience meditating inside the cave even though it was a bit challening as people were rushing in and out all the time making noises.
If you leave the ashram towards the river, you can find the meditation cave where his wife meditated. This one is in an open cave and you can take pictures (in contrast to the Vashishta Guha itself).

Awesome waterfall with some great naturally formed pools. Do carry your towel and changing clothes. There are 2 pools on different levels and changes rooms as well.
Tables are kept in shallow water at one level of the waterfall. You can sit, dip you legs in water, enjoy the fall and have tea/Maggie/eggs etc. We were mesmerized to see this and had a wonderful time.
This waterfall might get crowed over weekends so try to go during week-days.

If you're afraid of heights, this may not be for you. The Lakshman Jhula iron suspension bridge is located between two villages, Tapovan & Jonk. It is also not far from Rishikesh. It crosses the Ganga River, and offers great panoramic views. It does get crowded with locals, and tourists alike ... and, an occasional moped. Watch out for the monkeys, as well. Don't feed them. Yes, you will feel the motion of the bridge, but it's not scary. I really enjoyed this area, especially the walk along the river.

The Ram Jhula is larger and wider than the bridge I crossed earlier (Lakshman Jhula) today, but provides a passage for locals, tourists, carts, and motorbikes. Both Bridges have movement, but nothing scary. You can find small shops on both sides, so bring your spending money. I carry small currency denominations for tips, offerings, and local transportation. For something different, we crossed the river by a local ferry for people. Offered another view of the bridge from below. Hope this helps for your first visit. I love the Indian people.

This Ashram is located very near to Ram Jhula. It is said that Swami Sivananda stayed here for more than 3 decades and had started this Ashram. Sivananda Ashram conducts yoga classes everyday.except Sunday. Ashram has separate timings for men and women.. Meditation Classes and Pranayama classes are also available.
There is a library with lot of books. The ashram is well maintained... Ambiance is very good.

The location where the white album
Was composed and where the world was introduced to transcendental meditation. It’s been abandoned for a long time but definitely worth the visit. Eclectic architecture and a newly opened museum with pictures of the Beatles visit and an interesting display on TM. it’s a short walk from town.
