We retained Simonetta di Paoli (depaolisimonetta (at) gmail.com ) to show us around this incredible school. It provides a 3 year program for 150 students who come from around the world. The floors of the school are mosaics. The walls are chock-a-block with mosaics. Even the bathrooms have mosaics.
The best part . . . because our guide knew all the teachers . . . was being able to go into the classrooms and watch the students working on their mosaic assignments.

To reach the dam you have to go uphill in a beautiful road. When you get to the dam there's a parking lot, and from there you can walk a little to a small chapel, a place from where you can see the dam and some informative sings. On the way from the parking lot to the dam, there are several small flags with the name and the age of all the children that died that day (this was very touching).
Also they have some guided tours that last almost two hours, and they go 3-4 times a day, but the operation hours change during the year, so better check on the website before going.

This part of Italy is so little known yet contains so much rich history from across all the centuries. The old Benedictine Abbey at Sesto al Reghena is well worth a visit. It has a lovely calm atmosphere, beside a beautiful river which flows through the village. It is only a few minutes from the main Venice-Trieste motorway (the exit to Portogruaro) but you feel transported back in time. It deserves to be better known.

When in Pordenone, I strongly reccomend to signtisee Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.
Its atmosphere, its old palaces facades, the town hall, the Cathedral and its bell tower are simply worth a visit.
Many nice shops too.
Stroll around and enjoy one of the nicest old streets of the region.

It is a bit difficult to get to this lake but it is worth the drive. The water colour is stunning, and the lake is surrounded by a fresh and clean environment. It is like stumbling upon a gem while wandering around the desert. This is a wonderful spot to visit on a hot summer day as it always seems to be cool and refreshing here.

We enjoy bringing visitors to this scenic spot in Polcenigo. Short walk from where you park and beauty abounds. Nearby restaurants offer an afternoon drink or evening meal. Close to our home and very relaxing.

We love this area! They have a barefoot trail we enjoyed and hiking trails in the woods. The hiking trail led us to a river, old bridge, trees, such beauty! A restaurant is on site though you must make Reservations for dinner. We loved seeing the farm animals and the old church tucked in the forest.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore, located close to the Castle of Spilimbergo, was built in the 13th and 14th century. It is a magnificent old church with those faded wall decorations which brings you back to the middle ages. Unfortunately, our visit was cut short, because a funeral service was scheduled. Santa Maria Maggiore has retained its function in the daily life of Spilimbergo over 7 centuries. Next time in Spilimbergo we will visit again in order to obtain pictures of the interior.

Not really a scenic underground cave system but a statue in a small cave. Bit of a disappointment if you are expecting underground adventures. It is only open on weekends. There are a series of nature trails through a gorge nearby, very suggestive of Watkins Glen, New York. As in much of Italy, there are few signs or directions, and it is more of a nature walk rather than a learning experience. You can park your car across the street in a crowded lot where everybody just parks their car in whatever direction they want. There is a better, more organized lot about 100 metres down the road (north, in the direction of Gerchia).

My family and I have been going to this park for years. With lots of running and jogging trails, two Playgrounds, a lake, the river, a castle, and a library there is something for everyone. Often times their is a gelato stand set up or some other activity going on. My kids love to go and look at the coy pond, and run through the woods.
