We had a great tour of the plantation and learned about the process of making cigars and getting the tobacco ready. The people there were all SO nice. Very informative. It was one of the highlights of our Cuba trip. You have to make a reservation in advance, but if you are able, try to eat here as it was one of our best meals in Cuba!

It's impossible to institutionalize the tobacco industry: it's a tradition that gets transferred down generations after generations, it requires care, love, dedication... a Cigar factory summarizes this process when tobacco leaves are rolled into cigars. Fabrica Donatien will give a deep insight of how this endearing Delivery gets finalized.

Last November I finally had a chance to visit the famous church in Pinar del Rio city. The Parish was created in 1688 and the building in 1883. The Diocese of Pinar del Rio was established by Pope Leo VIII on February 20, 1903, just 9 months after the birth of the Republic, that's when the church received status of Cathedral. The history of the city of Pinar del Rio is closely tied to the church. It's been said that the church pleaded with the people of the Pinar region to come to listen to the mass in their poor chapel. Since the people came from far distances, they were persuaded to build their homes close to the church....and so the city grew. The architecture of the church is mostly neoclassical with a touch of baroque. Inside, the church contains three naves each with an altar, a larger central flanked by the two smaller ones. It's a regular working church but unfortunately I don't have the hours of operation. During my visit, mass was taking place.

Big cave offering a 1.5 to 2 hour tour with helmets and local guides. Nicely done and in a beautiful location

We got here on a horseback riding tour with a local guide, were given torches to walk through the cave and shown some interesting formations. At the end of the cave, there is a lake which you can swim in. Its lovely to swim in but quite dark - My boyfriend and I swam and it was lovely! Would definitely recommend!

A very quick stop (10 minutes) to see a static display about the drink and a sales room for cigars (cuc$20 EA some of them). Not worth the fight around the one-way traffic system (market day) for the coach driver.

We actually visited the Francisco Donatien Tobacco Plantation on an Air Transat tour of Pinar del Rio (Vinales). Francisco Donatien is the owner of this farm operation.
We visited the field and saw the tobacco growing and went into the tobacco barn and saw it hanging to dry. Also inside of the barn we had a cigar rolling demonstration. This was a great tour.

The murals and antique furniture are worth the price of admission besides all these cultural attractions are bunched together so easy to take a look and a few pictures.

Since this location is right near many others on Calle Marti it is easy to pop in and take a look. Certainly worth the 1 CUC they charge for admission. While I was there a great deal of upgrade work was going on so hard to get a feel for the final product.
