I'm not usually into captive wildlife collections--this one is very different. The refuge is exactly that--a place for injured or sick birds of very dramatic species--the layout is great for walking through, the birds are magnificent--you will Condors which are huge and daunting--but in a large, spatial enclosure. The bird demonstration/show by a trained and knowledgeable handler is really something to see--especially the release of the birds for flying around and coming back for a reward morsel.

Take the short hike along a walled cobble stoned path. Lots to see along the way as you pass a campground and a small settlement. You can view the falls from a small bridge below the falls or climb to the top on some steep trails. It can be very muddy and slippery, so take care when climbing.

I read about this tree, and wanted to see it, despite our tour guide telling me it was "just a tree" - though it had an interesting history. It is just a tree....but the ride to get there was exciting, literally in the middle of nowhere. The view is spectacular. I think it was definitely worth the diversion.

After visiting the Mercado delos Ponchos, I visited this park. I has the statue (head only), Fountains, beautiful flowering trees and plants, benches to rest and sit down, etc. Located near by are the San Luis Church and Municipal Building.

The Living Otavalo Museum was created in 2011 to preserve the culture of the indigenous Otavalenos. The museum is situated in what used to be a Spanish Hacienda in 1821. In 1958, the building was founded as the textile factory of San Pedro, where many indigenous people were forced to work in conditions similar to slavery. The historic architecture is preserved today in the museum. Currently, the Living Museum exhibits indigenous customs, live demonstrations of traditional weaving with the back strap, and the architecture that still exists from 1820.

Located near the city center, I walked to this church, only to find it closed. I asked a local who told me that it is open for mass at 4:00 p.m. Hoping to find it open before I leave Otovalo.
Note that there is a small playground located across this church.

This is the main market for the purchase of fresh fruit, vegetables and meats. There are many vendors selling beautiful fruits and veggies and inside there are vendors for meat and chicken. There are also small restaurants and vendors selling other household goods. This is a great place to visit and experience the local culture firsthand,

This is a small church a block or two from Parque Bolivar. It is white on the outside and somewhat ornate inside with several interesting features to observe.
