Less than one hour in length take the Ring of Hook Coastal Drive to soak up the stunning coastal rural scenery this beautiful part of Ireland has to offer, while catching sight of some of our county’s most important built heritage. Follow Ring of Hook Signage starting from Tintern Abbey, on to Fethard village, Baginbun Head, Loftus Hall, Hook Lighthouse, Templar’s Church ruins and finish in Duncannon Village. Full map and brochure available May 2015.
We were here off season, so we basically had the entire drive to ourselves. (this is probably a traffic nightmare in season)
This is the ultimate in pastoral Ireland with an oceanscape out the other window. Small towns, ruined abbeys, and a cool lighthouse.
Take a walk on the beach near Slade Castle. Very cool rock and quartz formations. Tide moves in fast, so watch!
This trip is well worth an afternoon.

This stop was well worth it. Walking up the lane to the Abbey, you get an appreciation of how large a structure it really is. We were given a plan of how it would have looked originally. It is just amazing how well it has been preserved.

Having travelled to Tipperary to make a Delivery, I found myself very early for the return ferry from Rosslare. Seeing the sign, I thought I would give the experience a go.
Jim and the team bring history back to life. The rebuilt ship is an excellent example of being able to understand how the past should be remembered and learned from.
Although difficult to imagine, this ship and the company saw a business opportunity to take a return cargo of immigrants back to the USA and Canada when already operating laden the other way. Giving starving people hope for the future.
Conditions were tough to say the least but compared to other operators, the mortality rates were significantly less than a lot of west coast ships.
A superb experience to be recommended to anyone in the area. Thank you.

This is a most beautiful place and I am surprised it does not feature higher on Wexford's 'must-do' tourist attractions.
It's a wonderful story of restoration and clearly a labour of love for the volunteers who run it.
Got a really warm and friendly welcome and spent a memorable hour+ here in early June and will return when next in the general area.

Originally started in 1947 these Gardens host a wide selection of rare and tender trees and shrubs. With over 130 different species the garden is a delight to both the keen amateur and the more serious horticulturist. Presently Kilmokea Gardens holds an Irish Heritage Garden certificate which is a justifiable reward for 65 years of creation and dedication. These Peaceful Gardens are laid out around a pretty Georgian house on Great Island overlooking the River Barrow. The house looks out over the walled garden which leads to the large five acre woodland garden & the Fruit & Vegetable potager growing produce for the Garden Café visitors and House Guests. There is a Fairy Village, the first of its kind in Ireland and 'The Myrtle Wood' children's story. Mr & Mrs Hedgehog and Freddie Fox await the arrival of the children to tell their story. To depict the historical influence of Kilmokea, there is a small Viking settlement and a Norman Motte & Baily. Our Café serves Organic and Wexford produce daily and our Craft & Fairy shop is open from 10 - 5pm too.
Kilmokea Gardens is a 'must see' if visiting Wexford. It is the place of adventures and fairytales from your youth and relived in the most magicial way. There is an abundance of entertainment for all ages! The Gardens themselves are a site to behold with...MoreOh... thank you! We are delighted that you love Kilmokea! We look after it with love and care and it means so much that so many have such a wonderful time here. Blessings to you.

The Ros Tapestry is a unique project ongoing in the South East since 1998, involving over 150 stitchers working on 15 giant tapestries panels It is an excellent example of creativity and community spirit on a grand scale and depicts Norman History linking all the sites in Ireland's Ancient East. Ros Tapestry is one of the largest series of embroidered tapestries in Europe. Each tapestry depicts a different significant event in history. A tale told in thread. The first tapestry was completed in 2002 and to date 14 of the 15 tapestries are complete Our project is a unique and exquisite work of art and deserves to get huge exposure, and be available for everyone to enjoy. Open 6 days 10a.m. -5p.m. Sunday 11a.m. - 3 p.m.
The visit to the Ros Tapestry was the best way to end our tour of Hook peninsula. We were first surprised and then amazed by the quality of the work of all those volunteers that helped to make the local history come to live in these 15 tapestries. The skills and patience of all those involved is amazing.
The Ros Tapestry exhibits 14 tapestries made in the last decades by local volunteers. The 15th - and last - tapestry is in the making. Together these tapestries tell the story of the founding of New Ross. Though small, the exhibition center does a great job in exhibiting, preserving and complementing the tapestries with an audio guide. To really appreciate the tapestries and the audio guide, take up to 90 minutes for a visit.
Finding the Exhibition Center was tricky as it boasts no really big banners. I would have loved to buy an embroidery kit of part of one of the tapestries. The selection as to small for my taste...
But these are minor remarks on a really great experience

A nice presentation of JFK's visit to his father's homestead. Lots of information on his entire career in beautifully done glass partitions, pictures of his visit and the family still living there and those from the past, recreation of the old house with some original pieces of furniture & memorabilia. Staff was very knowledgeable & helpful.

The Tour – Reopening for guided tours mid-May 2017 Duncannon Fort is an impressive presentation of a bastioned fortress perched on the side of the stunning Hook Peninsula, County Wexford, part of Ireland’s Ancient East. This historic structure has gathered countless intriguing and awe inspiring stories over its 450 year history and holds one of the best vantage points to take in the beautiful Waterford Estuary from. Duncannon Fort closed for the season on Sunday 28th August 2016. Thank you for all the support this season. *Hook Tourism is a not for profit organisation. All funds raised contribute to providing these guided tours and to the development of tourism on the Hook Peninsula.
Really interesting site; great tour led by Bob - history buffs will love it. Took slightly over an hour. This large fort complex could be developed into a really great attraction, given some money for repairs/restoration. NB: wear sensible shoes - people in flip-flops had difficulties staying upright on the wet surfaces after rain, particularly in the under-ground bits. Free coffee for every ticket holder in the Strand pub down the road!

You will so enjoy an extraordinary amble around these Gardens. There's a walled garden with pear and apple trees. Several places to rest and sit down along your experience to stop and stare. The monkey puzzle walk is brilliant. The orangery or glass cafe gazebo is wonderful. You feel like you are on top of the world.
