Johannes Larsen Museet

Visit the artist Johannes Larsen's home. It stands today just as it did in Larsen's and his fellow Funish Painters' heyday in the early 20th century. Visit the house, the workshop, the winter garden and the Gardens. See changing Exhibitions of both newer and older art in the modern exhibition buildings.

The gallery itself is really lovely. The elegant spaces were filled with light. I was however disappointed by the paintings. I think they would have benefitted from some editing. There were some excellent works, but too many that should have stayed un shown, and were probably not intended for public view anyway. He did seem to draw artists to Keterminde with a great deal of personal charisma.
The mill, still in working order was very interesting.
The garden too is lovely. It is worth a visit.

This is a peaceful place for a visit, especially out-of-season (we visited in early October). The roads from Kerteminde are lovely and quiet - they are so narrow in places we were glad not to meet much traffic. There is a good walk round the headland (the top of Fyn/Funen)- a wheatear stayed on the path for a long time and let us photograph her, and a kestrel was overhead. We had to keep ahead of a noisy Danish school group to see the birds.

Vikingemuseet Ladby

Step into the Ladby Ship grave - Denmark's only Viking ship grave - and walk around the ship, where a Viking king in the early 900's was sent off on his last journey. See an exhibition about the ship and the ship grave, and follow along in the building of the full-size Ladby Ship and the sewing of the Ladby Tapestry.

Fjord & Baelt

Fjord&Bælt’s Exhibitions are for visitors of all ages. The Exhibitions are made up of different rooms where it is possible to immerse yourself in various topics. For instance, in one room you can learn about jellyfish and test your skills at various interactive stations. Another puts you eye-to-eye with the skeleton of a huge sperm whale, where you can test your skills against the fascinating senses and abilities of whales. You can also watch splendid films about the sea on giant screens, which make you feel that you are underwater yourself. The recurring feature of Fjord&Bælt’s Exhibitions is our touch pools which provide a unique opportunity to get very close to marine animals. Fjord&Bælt wants to make sure everyone gets his or her hands wet, because we believe that this provides the most profound and intense experience – and hopefully encourages the visitor to ultimately want to take better care of the sea, and not least the aquatic animals living there.

A must if you are near by. A mixture of science brought to everyone, sea search centre and museum. You can watch the training of the harbour porpoise and Seals with all necessary explantions. When we were there a scientist has done some work together with the trainers which was very interesting even for our seven year old daughter.
Inside all wonders of fish and the abilities of Spearm Whales were explained and you could relate your own abilities to the ones of the whales. In a under water tunnel you can explore live the animals living outside and sometimes see a seal swim by suddenly.
There also a water basin with crabs, starfish and other fish to touch. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. You can ask them and they explain everything.
All in all a perfect location for the whole Family.

Hokeren

The museum store, The Peddlar's Shop (Hokeren), is housed in a carefully restored building from the 1700's. From floor to ceiling, the shop is bursting with all sorts of goods, from toys to pickled herring. In short, a real, old-fashioned country store, that takes you back to the early 1900's.

Without any doubt a very nice place to visit. I was pointed to this by a friend... Otherwise I wouldn't have found it. Biggest and best restored Viking grave of Fyn Denmark. Nice when smaller children still know the cartoon series of Wicky the Viking.

Svanemollen

Svanemollen (Swan Mill) was built in 1853 and belonged to the merchant I.A. Larsen. It was taken over by his son, Johannes Larsen, who cared for it until his death in 1961. At the turn of the century, the miller and his family lived in the small, half-timbered house next to the mill, until Johannes Larsen built a more fitting home for them.

Reviewed By ClausLiisbergKamp - Roskilde, Denmark

Svanemøllen is part of the Johannes Larsen museum and should have been names as so.
Johannes Larsen was a danish painter who lived here from 1901 to 1961. He owned the mill and it gave him an extra income.
The house is unchanged from the time when the famous painter lived here.
And then there is a wonderful museum of his paintings.
Beautiful park and sourroundings.
