A wonderful experience with helpful guides, Porters and trackers combining to make a one off experience for the 8 members of our group. We were fortunate to find the gorillas in about 90 minutes of sometimes steep climbing. Once there the trackers made it as easy as possible for to view and take photos by clearing away the brush around them as they moved slowly. Because of the nature of the terrain it is not possible for everyone to take photos at the same time and it is therefore perhaps reasonable that you take your photographs and then move aside to let someone else in. The guide did try to action this. After our hour with the gorillas it was ‘the short way back’ which was incredibly steep but down hill and then a fairly level short hike to the rest area where we were presented our certificates. A wonderful experience.

Engagi means Gorilla in English. Engagi Means Ingagi in Kyinyarwanda Language Engagi means Gorille in French It is an attraction in Uganda ,Rwanda and DRC
When my daughter and I started researching options for her solo travel through Uganda, my biggest concerns were safety, reliability and good accommodations. Her priority was to see a lot of wildlife in different settings with an excellent guide. Robert and Engagi Safaris met – and far surpassed – all our expectations.
I really appreciate how responsive Robert was to all my many inquiries and the great care he took throughout my daughter’s two excursions. In addition to a weekend to see the gorillas at Bwindi (so close up!). Robert created a 3-day custom itinerary that included an incredible amount of wildlife at Kibale and Murchison Falls. The photos are breathtaking. The “moderate” accommodations were far nicer than we expected, especially those at Bunyonyi Rock Resort, which was truly lovely.
Thank you, Robert, for making this truly the trip of a lifetime.

It doesn't come more peaceful. Take a boat ride on the lake, visit one of the Islands for a nature trek, view "Punishment Island" with its horrid history, and just relax relax relax.
And feel free to jump into the lake and swim. It's the only lake in Uganda where there's no fear of bilharzia.

We are a safari company based in Uganda. Since our inception in 2011, we have served numerous clients from around the world. We take pride for our personal service and treat all our guests like a family. Our diverse range of tours suits all types of travellers from solo travelers, to couples on a honeymoon, or families on holiday.
Gatatu Safaris organized for us a 7-day safari in Western and Southern Uganda, with visits of the Kibale and Queen Elizabeth National Parks, the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the lake Bunyonyi. The tour was super well organized with a crescendo of experiences and wonders. First, a close contact with chimpanzees, then sightings of great mammals (elephants, lions, buffalos, hippos, water kobs, gazelles) and birds, and finally an encounter with mountain gorillas, the highlight of our tour. To relax a bit after the gorilla experience, we spent a day at lake Bunyonyi, visiting a local school and a pygmee village. Our guide Jasper was exceptional, knowing many people and always finding the right place to be. During the trip, he always had interesting insights into the places we were driving through and also gave us insights into Uganda life, politic and economy. The organization of all permits, hotels and other logistic was done masterfully and we, as tourists, never felt that things were improvised. Bravo to Richard of Gatatu and Jasper, our guide. We can only recommend Gatatu for anyone who wishes to visit Uganda and experience the wonders of this welcoming and safe country.

Edirisa's Canoe Trekking is a combination of dugout canoeing and hiking around Lake Bunyonyi and throughout southwestern Uganda, as far away from touristy areas as humanly possible. We have been organising such treks since 2005, providing travellers with a striking blend of culture and action. From 2 hours to 7 days, starting from $15pp.
We spent two amazing days with Edirisa at lake Bunyoni. The trip had a lot of different and diverse activities including canoeing, hiking, visits to local schools and encounters with local tribes. The highlight of our trip was definitely our camping overnight at Mama Bena's garden. Mama Bena's family is very welcoming and warm. We learned a lot from them about the local culture. The second day we did a long hike but we were rewarded with stunning views of the lake. Our guide was knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make our trip unforgettable. We highly recommend Edirisa!

I had a really exciting and wonderful day touring around Lake Bunyonyi with Kenneth. He showed me how life is there, went with me to the Good Samaritan Orphanage, his village and hiked with me from there back to Kabale. It was a very great day!
He is a very kind and enthusiastic person, making sure that you get a real impression of living in the villages.
I would definetly recommed everybody to contact him. He has a lot of different tours to offer!!
Perfect day at Lake Bunyonyi! :)

We hired African Jungle Adventures in order to plan our trip to Uganda and Rwanda, and also to provide a car and guide.
Before the trip, they offered suggested itineraries and then made adjustments based on our preferences. They also made sure we secured permits to see gorillas and chimps before they sold out - we did two chimp treks in Uganda, one gorilla trek in Uganda and one in Rwanda. The packing list they provided beforehand was very helpful - for example, many people we trekked with did not know you should wear gardening gloves for the nettles, but we did thanks to African Jungle Adventures! We felt very prepared in general for these somewhat strenuous treks.
The one thing that we didn't know beforehand is that practically no one in Uganda or Rwanda accepts American bills printed before 2006. If you're traveling to Uganda and/or Rwanda, it's best to get bills from 2006 and newer. For us, it wasn't a big deal because our guide/driver helped us figure it out. But it is good to know beforehand!
Throughout our whole trip everything was very organized. Our guide always made sure all the details fell into place. For example, in Murchison, our transport boat to take us across the Nile to meet our tour boat didn't show up. Our guide/driver, Baker, made a few calls and a boat came. We were late to the tour boat, but the nice thing was that because the big boat was filled, we got to go on a much smaller boat with only four other people.
Baker was also very helpful in keeping us on schedule and also being flexible to our needs. Our last trek in Rwanda to see gorillas was at the end of the trip. I was a little sick, so we asked Baker if we could get into a group that would see a gorilla family that was close. Although it's hard to predict exactly how close a gorilla family would be, they were able to accommodate our request; we trekked only about 45 minutes through fields, then 15 minutes into the forest to see the Kwitonda group, which was an absolutely amazing family of approximately 23 individuals, including several babies and young.
Additionally, all the accommodations that African Jungle Adventures recommended were very nice. We researched the suggested lodges and decided on a mix of luxury, deluxe and budget lodging based on our preferences and TripAdvisor reviews. The last place we stayed, Paradis Malahide at Lake Kivu, was one of the budget choices, which is still hard for me to believe. It was simple, but beautiful, clean and the food was really good!
This was an absolutely amazing trip that I will never forget! Thank you, African Jungle Adventures for all your help navigating the logistics and small details!
