Cafe/Restaurant providing takeaway cabinet food and drinks as well as sit down meals. Suits travellers for convenient quick service, and large car park facilities on the main road.
Stopped in for a quick takeaway coffee and it was horrible , was already a few minutes down the road before I had any of it so couldn’t be bothered taking it back
But probably good thing because I probably would have ended up throwing it at them
Ended up just tipping it out
Waste of $5:60
Will never go back there

Comfortable, friendly cafe with great atmosphere; home style cooking, eclectic menu. Spacious outdoor Seating area; watch the street scene whilst enjoying a coffee. All day (in season); fully licensed. Cafe style during day; evening restaurant.
We drove from Christchurch to Nelson and were in need of sustenance. Rivers Cafe had a variety of food options. The food was not cheap but we really enjoyed it.

Poor lady was under the pump trying to run the kitchen, make breakfast, take orders, make coffee's & clear tables. We arrived at about 8am for breakfast on Saturday morning. Massive effort to get a smile out of the lady running the place but she was under the pump! Took 20 minutes to get poached eggs on toast. Saw her send away a couple of people because she could not make coffee and cook breakfast at the same time. Abit amusing. The surroundings were old commercial country pub. Mismatched furniture, qwerky is probably the best way to explain it. Abit of Kiwiana mate. The eggs were ok, the lady needs a break or some training and the world carries on!

Don’t stop in the mad hustle Nd bustle of Murchison. Stop here. It’s just lovely. Sooo relaxing, a great menu, loads of parking (and an animal park which we didn’t go to). Lovely outdoor areas and peaceful setting before getting on highway again. If you need to recharge yourself while on a road trip, we found this ticked all the boxes and would definitely stop here again as opposed to right in Murchison. Thank you. Your place is lovely

We went to this little place for lunch after finishing The Old Ghost Trail mountain bike route. The service was fantastic and the coffee was excellent. They even served C4 coffee. All of us ordered fish and chips which tasted great. Just had to write a review because we enjoyed it so much and would definitely recommend it.

The Cow Shed Restaurant is currently closed for renovation! <br>Re-opening in the Spring
Well, actually there are two eateries in town for dinner, but this family run restaurant is a real find.Delicious pizzas and salads served by very friendly staff. Not licensed, so if you prefer something alcoholic, you are welcome to go over the road to the supermarket to obtain your supplies.

Perhaps the worst food we have ever eaten in NZ! Unfortunately this seems to be the only 'restaurant' (although I would hardly call it that!) open in Murchison after 7pm. However unless you are starving or happy with eating rubbish I would avoid it at all costs!
It's basically a pub with a fast food kitchen. The beer is fine & indeed the service at the bar quite pleasant BUT the food is simply atrocious. Very poor quality ingredients, very badly cooked & on top of that expensive for what it is. Maybe a simple burger & chips would be OK but the mixed grill I had was simply inedible - sausages which tasted like bread, a tiny steak which was both tough & tasteless accompanied by a very 'tired & tasteless' salad, for over $30!
Desperately needs a chef who takes some pride in the food being bought & how it;s cooked rather than someone buying the cheapest ingredients they can find & throwing them together in a microwave!

This cafe is amazing. Not only does the food look great it tastes amazing. I really enjoyed my whole experience there. The coffee was hot and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I would love to return there again some time. Service is amazing as well.

We arrived partway through our long diversion from Picton to Kaikoura. The ladies behind the counter were very helpful and accomodating and were pleased to se us, even if it was nearly closing time. Lovely little coffee stop.

Zen's kitchen provide delicious, nutritious vegan food made fresh with option for those with different dietary needs as well. Food is organic when possible supporting local growers and suppliers. We are highly environmentally conches using Eco products and tableware...
An out of the box food choice for a not so heavy meal while traversing the roads along Buller River.
Fresh and great care with the food. Beverage choices are a bit eccentric so you might opt for water or bring your own.
The food is tasty and reasonable. The veggie burger might surprise you.
Did notice the chef wash his hands several times between steps. Great clue as to how he treats his food.
Give this place a try.
