My son received a Go Kart experience for his birthday about 3 years ago. Now he's not your average outdoorsy type, but he REALLY loved it! We must go again... this time the daughter might be keen too... now that's she's old enough! A great family attraction, with quite a few different things to do. I haven't been to the cafe, but apparently it's pretty good too.

Cheeki Cherries

I had a lovely staff-member there from Singapore who was very hospitable and showed me around, and gave good instructions on how to pick the cherries.
The cherries are slightly more expensive (~$12/kg) than the other PYO places ($10/kg), but that aside, the place is great. I reached at the last day of the season so the trees were not brimming with cherries, but that would probably be due to my timing!

This winery cellar door has great potential. The food options are also very good with fantastic views but the quality of the wine available for tasting plus the amateurish service provided at the cellar door left a lot to be desired.

Cromwell Heritage Precinct

History |Galleries | Cafes | Boutique shops Central Otago's best kept secret - a free visitor attraction that has something for the whole family. When the Clyde dam was completed in 1990, Cromwell's main street disappeared under Lake Dunstan. Some of the historic buildings dating back to the gold rush of the 1860's were saved or lovingly rebuilt on higher ground, creating the Cromwell Heritage Precinct. Step back in time to the gold rush and explore heritage buildings, many with artisan businesses in them, located on the shore of beautiful Lake Dunstan. Open daily.

Lovely to see how well Cromwell has preserved her history. Delightful area right on the shores of Lake Dunstan. Congratulations on not charging admission. I hope all the little businesses do well. Informative and easy to stroll around looking at the various displays and memorabilia.

Wooing Tree Vineyard Limited

The Wooing Tree is a local landmark that sits prominently in the middle of our family vineyard. It has long been a place for locals to woo their lovers, and if it could talk, would have many a story to tell! These days it is not quite the private spot it once was...but we still have plenty of visitors proposing marriage and even getting married under our beautiful iconic tree, amidst the vines. Central Otago enjoys a perfect climate for producing beguiling Pinot Noir. Our single vineyard site is located in the very heart of the region, in the town of Cromwell, opposite the 'Big Fruit Sculpture'. Come and visit! You'll discover why we specialise in making Pinot with Passion...

Our last stop on the Cromwell Walking Wine Trail. We had a tasting first and decided to stay for a cheese platter with extra sourdough and a bottle of the Pinot Noir. Most enjoyable. The cheese platter and sourdough were excellent. Our only grumble is that the wine tasting was so stingy it was more a sip than a taste.
The location was relaxing but this was mid afternoon and I suspect it might be different when they are busy. The staff were efficient and friendly.
Wish they had a shortcut from Scott Base for those on the Walking Wine Trail.

A short drive out to Bannockburn, past the wine yards, some not open for visitors yet and into the secluded carpark, safe to leave your vehicle here. A gentle stroll over the lower fields before a gentle climb up to the lower region of the sluice fields. You need to stop and look back to capture the spectacular views out over the valley as you ascend the well marked pathways. Most of the time we felt we were the only people on this planet! You will need to be fit and active to climb to the top and down the other side. This is amazing scenery so take your camera. How lucky we are to have access to our amazing country side.

Wanted to stop to check out this fruit stall as it looked busy with lots of cars and tour buses outside. Was disappointed as it really lacked the friendly and welcoming feel that other places around this area have. Eg. They have cut up fruit to sample but one staff member kept saying to people you can only take one piece, which was kind of off putting as there were a number of different fruits to try and sample before you buy, but it just made customers feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Also fruit didn’t look like it was great quality.

Aurum Wines

Aurum Wines is a family owned estate producing premium certified organic wines. Our tasting room is set in a fragrant cottage garden.

Reviewed By foodiefool_10 - Carson City, Nevada

This is a small organic winery. If you take the tour, the hands-on owner will give you a brief overview of their operation - it's very interesting. In the tasting room, you'll have a chance to sample several of the winery's fine offerings and cheese / bread bites. The owner will continue talking about growing and marketing wine in the area, and will talk about each variety of wine you sample. You'll have an opportunity to purchase bottles as well as some boutique vinegars, oils and other goodies. Little kids won't like this stop - teenagers maybe.
