Hamamatsu Air Park

Reviewed By TheDoor_isopen - Tuggeranong, Australia

We visited here on Silver weekend so it was super busy. Entrance was free and the exhibits were very modern and well presented. It was done very professionally. There's a lot of fighters, historic aircraft, flight simulators and helicopters, a shop and a restaurant. The building itself is a fine example of modern architecture. You don't have to be an enthusiast to appreciate the exhibits. My only gripe was that we had to use a taxi to get there and back to our hotel as public transport is extremely difficult - the area is almost rural.

Ryotan-ji Temple

Reviewed By Taigaa - Fujieda, Japan

Ryotanji is best known by the rock garden created by the art master Enshu Kobori, well-known garden creator in late 16th to 17th century. The garden was designed so that by viewing from the study room the rock can be seen equally aligned. But the temple's appeal does not end there. The temple's atmosphere gives you the piece of mind by seeing the great sculpture works or bhudda statues, artful calligraphy scrolls. If you are interested in Japanese history it has lots of Iyi clan properties including that of Naosuke Iyi who was assasinated in Sakuradamon gate in 1860. And don't forget that the restroom is inside the temple and not at parking space.

Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments

Lots of amazing musical instruments. Some from the past, many unfamiliar ones from around the world.
The Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments has some unique items, especially in it's display of pianos.
My favourite section was the display of old (and not so old) electronic keyboards and synthesisers.

Hamamatsu Flower Park

Reviewed By LG_Kay - Singapore, Singapore

This park is very spacious, with walking trails to enjoy the varieties of flowers. I was here in early April, the tulips were gorgeous - red, pink, yellow, white, orange etc. The park was well maintained. There was a section with beautiful flower sculptures. Next to it was a large greenhouse, with many beautiful flowers. Inside the greenhouse, there were theme Gardens such as Bali, Mexico, etc. We spent 1.5 to 2 hours leisurely exploring this place, with many photo shoots. Highly recommended to visit this park.
Getting there - At Hamamatsu bus terminal next to train station, go to bus stop 1 and take bus number 30. Journey is about 45 minutes, 560 yen. Alight at the Flower Park entrance.

Suzuki Plaza

Reviewed By SusantoWu - Medan, Indonesia

Rather than calling it a Plaza, I would rather call it a Museum. Inside, you will not only see suzuki cars but the waving machine, the very first motorcycles and cars till the most modern concept cars. Entrance was free. The area is large and even on weekends it was never crowded.

Ryugashido Cavern

Ryugashi Cavern, the biggest cavern in the Tokai District, is located in the "chichibu" fossil layer of limestone rock. The total length of the cave is about 1000 meters, the first 400 of which are open to the public. It is located on the south face og Ryugashi Mountain, elevation 359 meters. The year around temperature in the cave averages 18℃, so you can enjoy this underground spectacle in comfore.

Reviewed By LG_Kay - Singapore, Singapore

After Reading many positive reviews, I had higher expectations and hence was disappointed. The cave was rather small, basically a narrow tunnel. We spent less than 40 minutes inside the tunnel.
The passageway was well lighted though slippery due to the constant water dripping through the ceiling. Strongly advised to wear a good pair of shoes. There were the usual stalactites and stalagmites, with some interesting formations and creative names. The highlight is the small waterfall of 30 metres inside the cave.
Given a 1 hour journey and 1000 yen entrance fee, I suggest you give it a miss if you have been to other caves. Visit if you have half a day to spare or you have seen enough of castle, park and shoppings.
Getting there - At Hamamatsu bus terminal next to train station, go to bus stop 15 and take bus number 45. Alight at Ryugashido-Iriguchi, journey about 1 hour. Look out for sign and walk for about 10 minutes. Note the bus is not regular. See my photos for bus schedules (note weekday or weekend).

Nakatajima Beach

Reviewed By Pedro B - Boussens, Switzerland

I've been to many Beaches and this is your average sandy beach. It is a surfer's beach so it's windy and has lots of small, disorganized waves. Swimming is prohibited so don't visit thinking you will swim there.
It's easy to get there. Get to the Hamamatsu train station and take the #4 bus. The fare was ¥280 per person and takes less than 1/2 hour.

Hokoji Temple

Reviewed By Ogoola_Karuta - Visby, Sweden

Situated quite deeply in the Mountains called "Okuyama", this zen temple offers not only a beautiful and tranquil place to visit but the famous monk vegan food called "Shojinryori" for a fair price (about 2500 yen). The surrounding nature of the temple is also impressive so you should take a whole day to visit. I heard that you can also stay at the temple if you call them in advance. You will have to pay a fee to stay there overnight. I am not sure of the price but usually they cost between 8000-15000 including two meals.

Hamamatsu Castle

Reviewed By Hiro H - Sydney

This castle played a significant role in Japanese history which housed one of the best Shoguns (Ruler of Japan); Ieyasu Tokugawa. He stayed here for 17years before becoming Shogun. He suffered from a significant loss in one of the battles out of this castle which shaped the rest of his life. Inside the castle, there are a lot of information about the history of this castle and battle. Unfortunately little English support is provided. Now this place is turning into a nice park. Great place to walk around on sunny day.
