Renovated in the spring of 2012, the Museum’s collection focuses on North Atlantic aviation history as it pertains to Gander and Gander International Airport, from the 1930’s through to present day, with the bulk of the artifacts, photos, and text focusing on the WWII years through the early jet age. Highlights of our collection: We have several WWII aircraft engines, a restored WWII DeHavilland Tiger Moth bi-plane, a WWII Lockheed Hudson MkIIIA mid-range bomber (which we are told is one of only 8 left in the world, and is the only one in North America), a 1950’s CF101 Voodoo jet, a 1930’s Beech 18-S, and a 1940’s Canso PBY-5A waterbomber. Of special interest, above the main entry we have positioned the tail section of a DC-3 (1930’s model), and out the back of the building, overlooking beautiful Gander Lake, is the cockpit of the DC-3, which visitors can enter from inside the building.
A fascinating collection of exhibits through Ganders impressive aviation history . A fun cockpit simulator to amuse all age groups. On 9/11 with American airspace closed approx. 40 planes landed at the tiny airport- the people there fed and sheltered them for four days, many welcoming them into their own homes to shower, sleep or eat. There is a very moving film that records the happenings of those days and the letters of thanks from Governments and individuals all around the world. We were there on 11th sept and the town had organised tours to visit the places associated with that day. We found the people of Newfoundland lovely and were unsurprised that the people of Gander had spontaneously risen to the challenge and opened their hearts and homes to strangers from all around the world. It was a very moving and life affirming experience to hear the stories.
Planes outside, large car park- well worth a few hours of everyones time.

It's not a huge park, but a lovely place to catch your breath and have a stroll. There is a small beach area and a playground for the kids. I imagine it's a great hike around the pond.

The Gander Heritage Park has been newly redesigned from the original Cenotaph to a beautiful park with monuments reflecting the aviation and military history of the community. Signage and park benches make it an interesting stop and a lovely place to sit and reflect. The design is great with the walk ways representing the runways at Gander International Airport. Children especially appreciate the monument to the Newfoundland Dog, Sergeant Gander.

Follow the Joseph Smallwood Arts and Culture Centre web site to book Concerts and theatre events in Gander. The theatre is recently renovated and with about 400 seats has no bad seats. Art gallery is not always in use but worth checking out when in town, just in case. Tickets can be purchased on line through their website. Advanced tickets are recommended.

absolutely lovely place; been there snowshoeing. I feel the club could make it so that snowshoers are welcome on the main trails all the time, especially at night. Wonderfully skiing - thoroughly enjoy all my experiences there.

Central Newfoundland's only Professional theatre festival! Laughter and thrills on stage all summer long. This season we bring you comedy, thriller, drama, mystery and music. Join us for a season to remember.
we had the pleasure of seeing this show at the Captain's Pub at The Anchor Inn, Twilllingate on June 17. Captain Shane at the pub was an excellent host and performed our screeching in ceremony during intermission.
The evening was so much fun we laughed all through the saga of Mom (Jamie Harding) and her daughter (Steve Harding) tell their plan to sell icebergs. If you get a chance to see this show - don't miss it. We had a super evening in Twillingate with The Gills from Beyond the Overpass at The Captain's Pub with Captain Shane

Golfed here in July 2017 and played a great 18 holes at this location. The terrain is well maintained and offers gorgeous views.
Would highly recommend a golf cart as it quite long distance wise and hilly.
The restaurant is reasonably priced and taste quite good

This was our first visit to the memorial. It was the 50th Anniversary of the plane crash that my husband had been in. There was a nice sized gathering of people and we were treated like royalty. I wish to thank all those involved. Your kindness and assistance on a very emotional journey will never be forgotten and is much appreciated.
