Cosmo’s Ristorante serves a variety of simple, but sophisticated dishes including Vitello Di Mare (veal topped with crab, shrimp, hollandaise sauce), Pollo Al Cosmo (grilled chicken with peaches in a cream sauce) and Bistecca Di Mare (steak topped with shrimp, crab and hollandaise sauce) to name a few. Cosmo was approached one day if he would be interested in assisting opening a new restaurant, Carmines a Fine Dining restaurant in downtown Orillia. He worked for Carmines eight years. Over the years in the food serviceindustry Cosmo learned so much, that in 1989 he decided to open his own restaurant, Cosmo’s Ristorante with the help of his family, on 190 Memorial Avenue. He thought this was the way for him to share his heritage and tradition of Italian food. In 1995 Cosmo decided to relocate to downtown Orillia where the action was and moved to 90 Mississaga Street, Downtown Orillia.
Four of us went to Cosmos for dinner and the food was exceptional. Really excellent Italian food. Service was great. One of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to (and I'm an Italian so I consider myself an expert in some regard). A great...MoreThank you so much for this wonderful review and supporting the authentic way Italian cooking is done! In 1993 Brewery Bay Food Company opened its doors in beautiful downtown Orillia as a 'fun dining' option for our locals and visitors alike. We wanted people of all ages and experiences to walk through the door and feel comfortable, greeted with a big smile and a large menu. Over twenty years later, Brewery Bay has remained true to its roots. There is something for everyone - vegans and carnivores alike! Good Grub Sit on the restaurant side with your family and indulge in our fried pickles, wonderful salads or one of our fabulous burgers and, of course, our famous cookie skillet for dessert! Great Pub Enjoy the pub, where we serve 12 different draught on tap, a wide selection of wine and scotch and a long list of cocktails and martinis. Patio The seasonal patio offers a wonderful people-watching view, centrally located in our beautiful and historic downtown Orillia. Parties Or make a booking in our private party room where we specifically cater to the needs of your event - romantic night out, birthday party or business meeting.
Service was not great. The waitress was distracted and it was not busy. She actually did not seem to know what she was doing.
My white wine was not even chilled.
Food was nothing to write home about. Hamburger was over cooked and dried out. Obviously just kept on pressing down on the burger as it cooked.
The hamburger and fries were not hot.

Six golf guys went to Studabakers on the Monday night after Labour day. The tourist season was over and we did not expect it to be crowded but to play it safe we called to reserve a table. No Reservations required was the answer. The location of the restaurant is downtown but quite close to the water if you want to go for a stroll through the park after your meal. The parking lot behind the building is small so you may need to hunt for a space. The building is interesting architecture and unusual layout leading to mostly one large open room which I could imagine being noisy during a busy Seating.
Our friendly waiter was quite prompt and attentive but after handing us our menus and taking our drink orders, he was no where to be found to answer questions nor did he suggest any specials or favourite dishes. Three of us were in the mood for chicken wings but the only ones we could find were in a combo with a half rack of ribs (which became my order) but there were sandwiches, burgers, pasta and other entrees to choose from. We asked about the wings and he said "Oh they are on our wings menu". Too bad we didn't know about this menu.
The restaurant was not quite half full but it took nearly 45 minutes for the food to come out. My ribs were ample in size and the wings were huge. I ordered their hottest sauce because the options were Frank's Red Hot or house made Ghost Pepper sauce. I love hot. I braced myself for a trip to the emergency ward. One of my buddies ordered the same meal but mild wings. I was disappointed, the breading on the wings was overdone and I had a little touch of heat by my standards but nowhere close to what I wanted. My friend was having projectile sweating, turning beet red and gasping for air. I kind of suspect the dishes got switched but I was too tired and hungry to re-order. My associate survived until the next morning. The biggest disappointment was the ribs. Both racks were gorgeous looking but you need a chainsaw to cut them because they were so overdone. The remainder of our group all had burgers which were really good with a nice presentation and well cooked.
Because this was after the peak season, I will give the restaurant a break and give them a passing grade this time and might even try again next year on our annual golf trip to Orillia. The place has great potential, The menu does have tempting dishes and our waiter tried to be friendly it is just too bad the kitchen let us down.
I hope for better next time.

Stopped into Viet & Thai Restaurant with friends for lunch. I ordered the chicken pho with rice noodles special, which came with a spring roll for $10.50. Pho was delicious, big portion.....Also got a pot of jasmine tea for free. Everyone else got something different and all enjoyed their meals. Server was friendly and orders didn't take long to be served to us. This is the second time I have been to this restaurant and would definitely recommend it to others.

I called last minute for a 'Wedding Reception Dinner' for 8 when out caterer bailed :-( , NEVER expecting to get A) A Reservation at the last minute and B) such a Genuinely Enthusiastic response from Norma Jean who arranged special Seating for our party!!
When we arrived, Norma Jean was the Perfect Host!! She went above and beyond to assure that every member of our party was carefully attended to and was meticulous in making certain that every nuance of our meal was Perfect!! Every meal was Superb!! When we arrived without the wedding cake, Norma Jean surprised the Bride & Groom at the end of the meal with a beautiful presentation of a (Huge) slice of the Grape & Olive's signature Carrot Cake with 'Happy Wedding Day' emblazoned on the plate!! The Bride & Groom were Thrilled!!
I have been blessed by being born into the family of a Remarkably renowned Chef, and have eaten at some of the most exceptionally magnificent restaurants in the World!! So - when I recommend a restaurant and especially the service - you can be certain that this truly is a First-Rate and Masterful establishment!! Thank You So Much Norma Jean & the chefs @ The Grape & Olive for creating a Fabulously Memorable occasion!!!

This is by far my favourite restaurant in Orillia. Everything is made fresh daily, plated wonderfully. Since I moved back to the area I try to come here once every couple months, You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The table staff are FANTASTIC. The menu is at the higher end of the price scale but it is well worth it. Great place for special occaisons

"Thaiplate born in Toronto (3434 Bathurst st.) in 2004 ,then moved to Orillia in 2011. Owned by Thai Chef
Finally got a chance to eat in at this little spot. The staff are very friendly, and our dinners were really, really good. We began with chicken satay skewers, and had grilled beef and my all-time favourite fried rice ever: the pineapple fried rice with chicken, shrimp and cashews! And, while I didn’t have any, they have green tea ice cream, too!

This is a very small cafe which does great lunches, Deserts, baked goods, teas and coffees. They also sell tea and coffee beans. The staff are very pleasant and the prices are reasonable. I like to go for a coffee and desert, though I have had the soup and it is very good.
