Historic Domburg has been a destination for seaside vacationers since the mid 18th century. Wide beaches, sandy dunes and bustling boardwalks make this a popular summertime vacation spot. Renowned artists like Piet Mondrian have taken inspiration from the picturesque scenery. The beach-weary can walk or bike around De Manteling nature reserve, which opens serendipitously onto Westhove Castle.

We have been here a couple of times already, but never when the weather was this good. There is a major difference in beach size on high or low tide, so its excellent for builing sand Castles. In summertime there are a lot of beach guards, who keep an eye out for you..
Even in high season, you can still find a spot on the beach, its big enough for everyone.
We always park on a big parking space near albert heijn, a dutch supermarket, they charge 8,50 euro for a full day.

There is a dune-top path leading all along this beautiful, unspoilt coast. You can bike or walk it, and if you get tired you can easily turn away from the sea and find yourself close to one of the small towns. Just past Domburg (if heading North) the turn-off leads past a castle (which used to be the Abbbot of Middelburgh's summer retreat), where there is also a restaurant/coffee bar (with a nice clean toilet). I walked along here with my husband and on my own at different times and it always seemed peaceful, not too many other people using it but just enough so you don't feel lost!

The main advantage of this place is that they sell bio fair trade snacks and coffee. Tasty toasts, homemade cakes, nice staff, but the offer very limited. Dog friendly.

Domburg is a very relaxed and friendly place and we were given directions on scenic tours to make on the bike around Walcheren at the VVV. We liked the public bus service from Domburg around the coast to other villages like Westkapelle and Veere.

De Hoge Hil is a small green hill in the town of Domburg, Zeeland, The Netherlands. On a clear day, one can see the coast of Belgium and the lighthouse of Westkap in Middleburg. This spot also has attracted painters such as Toorop, Mondriaan, and Boutens, with the natural scenic view overlooking the North Sea and its Beaches as well as the and the village of Domburg. Currently, their is a construction project going on, enhancing the hill with Seating to sit and relax enjoying the beauty, and sounds of nature. Even with the construction and building material on your way to the top, it is worth the trip.
