Bundaberg Rum Distillery

Under the careful and crafty eyes of our Distillers, Blenders and Bondsmen, millions of litres of Bundaberg Rum are aged to perfection here at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. After protecting and ageing our rums since the 70s, the grand old guardian of the distillery Bondstore #7, has been given new life by being transformed into our immersive Bundaberg Rum Museum. Inside, you’ll walk through a series of 75,000 litre American White Oak Vats – the very same vats which have matured hundreds of thousands of litres of rum (after being emptied and rebuilt of course). Inside these vats live a sensory experience where you can see, touch and smell your way through our rich history in creating Australia’s Favourite Rum – Bundaberg Rum. Please ensure that you arrive at least 20-30 mins early for your tour, especially for the last tour of the day and during school holiday periods. Unfortunately Flammable devices; matches and lighters, as well as any item with a battery including; watches, cameras, and mobile phones, pose a fire hazard to the Distillery and cannot be taken on tour. Lockers are provided free of charge to store these items whilst inside the Distillery on tour. If you have a medically required device such as a hearing aid, give us a call in advance so we can make arrangements for you to bring those items with you.

Hinkler Hall of Aviation

Better than I expected. Knew my hubby would love to see this attraction but I found I really enjoyed it too. The interactive displays are well done. We took a self photo with one of Hinkler's planes and used the props too (ie goggles, cap, wig, beads etc) and you get to send it home to yourself via email. Good bit of fun and a memory snapshop. Friendly helpful staff. Hinkler's house is on site also and worth a visit. We did not have time to visit the Gardens and Fairymead House but we will return. A very pleasant experience and a bit more of a surprise for me.

Watch loggerhead turtles nest on the beach

A visit to the Mon Repos Turtle Discovery Centre is an absolute must for wildlife lovers visiting the Burnett Region of Queensland. Think Hervey Bay whale watching, Fraser Island, Bunderberg Rum and Bargara Mon Repos! The Rangers provide a great introduction before taking guests in groups down onto the beach. Some good advice for free is to book online early to be placed in an earlier group. We booked three weeks in advance and were in Group 2 for the evening event of viewing tiny little hatchlings digging themselves out of the sand and making a dash for the waters edge to begin their lifetime journey.

Bundaberg Zoo

the zoo has been upgraded significantly since last time I visited. It is still free, and they have a nice range of Aussie animals, birds and reptiles. A pretty pleasant way to spend an hour. It is not a petting zoo - it is worth a visit by adults, too.

Seeing the turtles was the reason we visited Bundaberg. We were very excited about the Prospect of seeing turtles. The first group was lucky enough to be called out as soon as the place opened.
We only had to wait 1 hour before our group was called to go out. A person in an earlier group was bitten by a snake, so some groups had to be merged.
Our group was very large, resulting in us not being able to hear the guides or see the turtle. Children were asked to go to the front but rude adults rushed in front and blocked the children's view. My elderly mother struggled with the beach walk in the dark as we were not allowed any light. The walk down the beach was pleasant and we did not have to go very far.
The experience would have been better had the group been smaller in size.

Bundaberg CBD

As first time visitors to Bundaberg, we were impressed by this bright and energetic place. Some lovely old architecture, plenty of shopping options and restaurants. The streets are busy, but orderly. Motorists are generally polite and considerate. The people are particularly friendly and helpful, the streets are clean and Gardens well kept.
A special mention to the lovely lass at the Bundy Belle booking centre, with whom we had a great chat, and the helpful friendly ladies at the information centre.
Well worth a visit

Bundaberg Regional Libraries

The staff are wonderful, have never encountered a grumpy one! However, the changes they made some time ago (without any patron consultation - what is with that in 2017??) just doesn't work. They tried for bespoke, bookshopish and on trend, but failed. Weird layout does not add to the experience and the nonsence classification system into categories eg crime, romance, Australian (clearly Australian writers can't belong to other categories???), fantasy etc and a general fiction for the rest. It doesn't work on so many levels. Some series have one book in one section and others in another, general fiction has pure romance...you get the picture. I think that demonstrates just how difficult it would be to classify books, goodness some fit into more than one category...what to do? Bundaberg Regional Council please move into 2017 and do some honest consumer consultation when you make major changes to a very much loved institution.
