Post breakfast we started from Kamarpukur for a day trip to Biharinath Hills. It was a nice driving experience crossing across the land of red soil, forest, hills to finally reach at the hill top of Biharinath. The amazing landscape, scenic beauty of the forest hills and the trees with hanging fruits all along the hills were the added visual charm for us.

We started our Bishnupur tour from this place because this is where the ASI ticket counter is located. The ticket is valid at all temples in Bishnupur area. This place is bang in the middle of the Bishnupur town, surrounded by houses and busy shops. The roads are narrow everywhere in Bishnupur and it takes time to go around, plan accordingly.
Rasmancha (or Raas-mancha) is not a temple, it's supposed to be the place where the Krishna idols from all around Bishnupur used to congregate once a year to celebrate Raas. It's a grand structure made out of terracotta bricks and reliefs, surrounded by a well-maintained garden. The walls are adorned with beautiful carvings and statues, but they are not as intricate or complex as other temples in Bishnupur. It feels nice walkign through the colonnades of the building looking at the beautiful terracotta work.

If you are coming to Jarambati/Kamarpukur/Arambagh/Burdwan from Bankura, you will be crossing this stretch of jungle (~ 12 kms). The current road condition is very good and you will have sal trees for company. But, do not expect any wild animal sightings especially during the day because of vehicular traffic. But still it is a nice change for an urban jungle resident like me

It offers an opportunity for sight seeing, including the barrage, on the both sides of the Damodar River. It also offers a good outing for Picnic on a sunday or holiday. It is a delight during dawn or dusk hours, depending on the sunset or sunrise as the case may be. ,It is ideal for city dwellers to visit once a while to enjoy the nature, in all its bounty.

This terracotta temple, dedicated to Radha Krishna, built in mid 17th century, this is masterpiece of terracotta carvings, which is almost dead in India. Declared national monument in 2000, now it's being restored. It is combination of Persian Rajputana and Bengal architecture. Stories from Ramayana, Mahabharata, Hindu mythology and contemporary socio-political life in full are depicted in carvings. Floral and spiral designs are imitated from Persian crafts. Must see. History revisited.
