The old things on show were interesting to see. I think we were given a free cup of coffee there but I'm not absolutely sure of that. The goodies on sale in the shop were far too expensive!

My husband and I visited the town yesterday afternoon and, just like our past day-time experiences, this town was almost empty of shoppers. Every single time we have been here, there are some sort of building works or road works going on. A Dutch friend said they are changing Almelo and bringing more water into the town so as to bring in more visitors on boats etc. I don't know if I got that right, but certainly there is a lot of work going on around the town centre. If you like to go shopping without any crowds of people around, then you will like Almelo on a weekday as it is really so very empty of people. I have heard that there are more people around in the evenings in the restaurants and sitting outside on the terraces. We are intending to return again one evening next month, to sit outside with a drink on one of the restaurant/bar terraces!

This afternoon was sunny and warm and I needed some fresh air, so my husband suggested we drive to Beeklust park and sit outside in the Sunshine. The park was almost empty apart from lots of dog owners who all seem to meet up there regularly, as every time another person and their dog turned up, they made a beeline for the other dogs and owners on the other side of the park to where we were sitting. It is so peaceful here. It is a pity that the grass is so patchy and uneven. It looks pretty in photographs but it really is not very nice grass at all to walk on. However, I enjoyed the Sunshine and the peace. It is a pity that this park is not used more often for events or activities.

We often pass this windmill and we have parked our car in the tiny car park near to the mill a couple of times in order to look at it more closely. Unfortunately we have not been inside the mill yet as it is apparently only open for a few hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Sometimes we have seen the sails turning when we have passed by. I think it is a working mill, but only on those two days and also on a once a year day called Open Molen Dag, or something like that. I believe there is a small shop inside where they sell the flour that they have made. I did take some photos of the mill, but unfortunately I cannot find where i placed them on my computer just yet. When I find them, I will put them on here at a later date. Or else I will take some more photos if I cannot find the ones i already took. I do intend to visit again in the future on one of the days when it is open, and to go inside it. i hope we can climb all the stairs to the top of the mill. Meanwhile, until that time comes, we will just keep passing it in our car and admiring it from the outside.

The weaver's house is small. Nevertheless there are quite many items on display in the old house, including two weaving machines. In the neighbouring house there is a 'mooi kamer', a representative room of a century or so ago. They could use a little more exhibition space. Also, the museum is not well indicated on the street signs, but it is next to the nicest looking church.

My husband and I visited here, and we were surprised at just how many small animals and birds that they have here in indoor cages and pens. The cages and pens are quite small, so I do hope that they let the animals out of the building where they are, and let them run around and get some fresh air regularly. There is even a large horse inside a building where the other animals are, and it is in a very small stable. We walked around outside and came across two cats in a small cage. I was so upset to see the cats caged liked that. I hope they let them out eventually. There are quite a few animals outside who have plenty of room to walk or run around, which is nice. There is also an outdoor children's play area. We also saw that there is a shop and coffee room, but it is open at limited times. I think this is a very interesting place for small children, although it left sadness in my heart to see these poor animals living in such small indoor pens and cages, especially the cats. We will return in the near future.

We went to this park recently because there was a battle reenactment taking place there. The park was crowded. We saw a few stalls selling drinks and hot snacks, but we looked at the prices and everything was far too expensive. However, it was free to get into the park and watch the battle. I think someone mentioned that they do this annually. They often hold public events in this park.
The council had set aside a couple of greens outside the park where visitors could park for free, which was nice. Normally this park has a place outside where just 3 or 4 vehicles can park, I think. It is a large park and I think I only found one seat the time I was there before, just like a lot of other Dutch parks I have seen. There is a great expanse of grass, but it is not nice, well kept grass. It is more like meadow grass and I do not like walking on it.There is a very small lake, but it does not look clean. There are some concrete pillars in a circle and a lot of local people call it "Stone Henge". It is supposed to be art. The last time we were there the pillars had lots of graffiti on them. We will visit this park again in the near future to see if it has improved.

This library is in a modern-looking building with several floors. The children's book section looks quite nice. They do also have books in other languages. There is a long Reading table near to the entrance door where the public can sit and read a newspaper. There are a selection of newspapers to choose from. You can sit here and read a paper for free, but if you want to borrow books from the library, then that is NOT free. You have to pay a yearly subscription, although I believe it is free for children. So, I am not a member, even though I am an avid book reader. I just cannot afford the fees. But for those who can afford to pay, then it is a pleasant library with a nice quiet atmosphere. It has a restaurant inside called "Café de Meridiaan", which is very nice, although a large milky coffee is not cheap!
