Went to this restaurant after Reading reviews and did enjoy the experience but was not keen on my choice of meal. The staff were very good and efficient no less than you'd expect from the Germans. About half of the staff spoke English and were happy to help. This restaurant specialises in steak and this is what the wife had. Its well hung so even the rump was very tender so don't waste your money on the fillet steak the rump is just as good as any fillet steak I've had . Personally I had some pork and mushroom dish covered in cheese, but when it came out it looked more like an omelette made with cheese instead of egg, very cheesy and I would not recommend this dish although the pork was nice it was just to much cheese, my wife then advised me that they are into cheese fondues un Germany so this would explain this dish. Beer was good and bill was not two bad about 60 euros for two without desserts. Salad carte didn't look much but the dressings made it taste really good. All in all this restaurant deserved its top rating and I would recommend.

This is a very traditional café right in the middle of the pedestrianised area of the picturesque pilgrim town of Kevelaer and nowhere near the map entry shown here on Tripadvisor! It serves breakfast, lunch and in particular traditional cream cakes - a German speciality and a 'must' on all of our trips to Germany. The café itself doesn't stand out for its interior décor, but for the excellent quality of its cakes & cream gateaux! As is customary, we had a look at all the cakes in the large glass cabinet inside first and made our order directly at the counter, before chosing a nice table outside. It was a hot summer day in August 2009, so we decided on iced-coffee to go with our cakes rather than the more traditional freshly brewed hot cup of coffee. The cakes were really delicious and we can recommend the 'Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte' (Black Forest Gateau) in particular! Service was friendly and prices reasonable (€2.70 for a piece of cake and €3.30 for the iced-coffee). There are lots of other cafés and nice little shops in the centre of Kevelaer as well as beautiful churches. We had a great afternoon there and it's a nice place to visit.

Recently we visited the Kevelaerer Kaffeehaus and ordered Schnitzel, which usually is quite good anywhere in Germany. The waitress was quite friendly and food was quickly served. However, cutting the schnitzel was hard, because the meat was tough, and tasting the meat we got a nasty surprise: clearly there was something wrong with the taste ... We did not eat the meat, then. When the waitress asked us how the food was, we told her that we did not like the taste of the meat. Her friendliness had vanished right that moment ... She went, taking the plates back to the kitchen, and then came back to tell us that all the other customers liked the meat, and that we were the only guests complaining. She was sure that we were wrong, and that we never had pork schnitzel, so we did not know what we were talking about ... She was offended by the fact that we dared to complain in her own restaurant ... Then she went again, and a moment later she came back to apologize for her emotional outburst. For that she deserves a compliment. We paid for the food, leaving her with just one remark: if you do not want to hear your guests' opninion, you should not ask for it.
All this could have been a nice comedy scene .... Hopefully some things will change for the better, because the place is in a nice location, and deserves decent food. .

My family and I visited this small town for dinner one night on our vacation. We stumbled upon this authentic restaurant ran by an Italian family from Rome. Our food was fantastic! The staff was wonderful and spoke English very well. I highly recommend this authentic restaurant.

I really liked Elio. The staff were friendly and helpful without being too much. The ambience was nice and although the food was not cheap it was delicious. My father ordered a rack of lamb which he claims was one of the nicest meals he ever had. It did look delicious.
My only complaint is that the options for vegetarians are too few. Still, a great place worth a visit.

We visited this place for the first time even visiting Kevelaer many times.
The interior is classic and gives you good filling and view.
The place is very clean and the staff is very friendly.
We ordered Rumpsteak Krauterbuter and Heringstipp.
Both were delicious. Steak was made out of fresh meat and was fried just enough.
We will definitely come back.

After some shopping and sightseeing in Kevelaer we went for a lunch to this charming place where hard working ladies sometimes assisted by Norbert Driessen prepare their delicious authentic Thai dishes.
We ordered Tomyam soup 4/5, Phad Thai with prawns 4/5, Thai satay 4/5.
Sitting in the tent on a common wooden bank at a wooden table, a little Kampong ambiance, perfect, cosy simple and tasty 4/5. We will come again.

Enjoying the Christmas atmosphere in Kevelaer we choose to take our lunch in this cafe-konditorei which is located in the main shopping street not far from the church square.
Entering this brasserie leads you along the counter with very tasty looking pies and cakes, the eating room is comfortable and Christmas style decorated. 4/5.
The service is very friendly and efficient. 4.5. We ordered a Turkey salad 4/5 and a game goulash with spatzele and red cabbage. 4/5. A good establishment to take a breakfast, brunch or lunch.
