The Bell Inn, set in the lovely historic village of Horndon on the Hill, is a 15th Century Coaching Inn run by the same family for over 75 years. The two busy bars have the warm, friendly atmosphere of a 'proper' pub. There's an open fire, numerous ales on hand pump and a top-class wine by the glass list. The menu changes daily, using seasonal and local produce where possible. Upstairs, and in the Georgian properties next door but one, are 27 individually styled bedrooms featuring both modern and period twists that remain sympathetic to the beautiful buildings in which they reside. The Bell is featured in all the 'serious' guides and has won numerous industry awards including being recommended in The Times Cool Hotel Guide 2014 and The Sunday Times Food List as one of the 10 best gastropubs in the UK.
Here for lunch in the restaurant on Mother’s Day. Not the first time we’ve been here and it’s always a fine dining experience. Large and varied menu and wine list. Excellent quality of food, presented with an interesting mix of flavours and combinations. Mother-in-law very picky when it comes to dining out, but she totally enjoyed the high-quality food and first class service. Highly recommended.

Inspired by fast-paced japanese ramen bars, wagamama offers a range of fresh, healthy dishes including ramen, donburi, teppanyaki, curries, salads and juices. wagamama encourages guests to share in their enthusiasm, slurp on noodles, relax in good company and leave feeling happy, nourished and refreshed.
Very noisy but has friendly staff and food is freshly cooked. Main meal came before starter. Dessert very tasty. Good for a mid-shopping break but not particularly relaxing as very busy. Have to queue at peak times but it a kind of "eat and go" place.

Walk through the doors of Las Iguanas and find yourself transported to Latin America, full of rich, vibrant colours, quirky features and custom-made wooden mosaic tables made especially for the restaurant from sustainable woods in Brazil. Each restaurant is unique and the staff love bringing unusual things back from their travels, ranging from large lobster sculptures to giant drums. The philosophy of Las Iguanas is to serve delicious and authentic Latin American food and drink in an environment which evokes the very best of Latin life. With recipes dating back to the 16th century, the food successfully fuses native Latin American Indian, Spanish, Portuguese and African influences. Working hard to ensure that everything comes from the best possible source, Las Iguanas is proud of its fresh GM free food and top quality ingredients.
The food was excellent the service was bad.
The starters arrived quickly after that it went down hill had a long wait between starters and mains. Had to ask for cutlery, the table wasn’t cleared.
Other tables weren’t cleared, especially the one by the door!!
A general lack of interest, won’t go back in a hurry.

Located on The Boardwalk with views across the Alexandra Lake, Café Rouge at Lakeside is the perfect place to rest your weary feet after a day spent shopping. Set aside from the main shopping centre building, relax over a glass of wine and a bite to eat before you make your way home. We also have a delicious new food and wine menu with our versions of some of the French classics and some new dishes made which are sure to become new favourites! If you're coming to Lakeside by train, there is a dedicated walkway direct from Chafford Hundred train station on the London - Tilbury - Southend route. It's also well served by road links to the M25 and A13.

Having lived in Thurrock all my life and being a ‘foodie’ I have tried pretty much everything local once.
Shampaan is without doubt the best. It has become the regular for takeaways and sit-in visits for my family and friends for several years now.
Most recent visit was for a birthday meal. Ali and his eldest son Kaz took care of all of our needs from booking and were well supported by the rest of the waiting staff during the visit.
Friendly staff, well decorated and most importantly brilliant tasting well portioned food.

Went with my husband, and had cod and chips, cooked to perfection, the best ever, anything you have here is absolutely delicious, prawns and crab taste so fresh, salads are delicious, sweets are homemade, we love the sherry trifle, really boozy, throughly recommend

Serving up its painstakingly sourced menu of succulent steak dishes, Miller & Carter is devoted to all things beef. Alongside delicious cuts from the grill, the diverse menu includes build-your-own burgers, market-fresh fish dishes and a range of tempting nibbles. Chilled draught beers, cooling cocktails and an extensive list of tipples are found behind the bar, or guests can choose from the well-stocked wine cellar.
Really nice steak let down by the service. If you send reminders about being on time you need to deliver on your side. Just over 2 1/2 hours for 2 courses is not up to scratch. Orders taken soon enough but menus left on the table. Took 3 separate requests (3 different staff) to get the full drinks order to the table. Nothing re food for 45 minutes then starter, lettuce wedge and steaks all arrived in one fell swoop. Mains really good but starter sides going cold by the time they arrived. Another hour before desserts on their way. Root cause - not enough staff, and no-one overseeing the overall service. You have youngsters presumably on not much more than minimum wage, trying their best but (a) not enough of them (b) not enough training in the basics - more and better staff would have upsold more and left us happier with overall meal. A real pity as nice location and good food but the service really dragged the experience down

My husband booked up Sunday lunch at the three days as being Mother’s Day I didn’t fancy cooking, we made sure we read all the reviews posted and they were mostly good so we were happy with our decision. We arrived at our booked time no we’re greeted by the very friendly staff and were seated downstairs. It was a set menu for Mother’s Day we decided on the soup for starters which was tomato it was luke warm and tasted terrible! The roast was not fresh the potatoes were so hard and had all been reheated, the meat was tasteless it was the sort of roast dinner you would get at a roadside cafe, not for a Mother’s Day treat! The desert was awful the profiteroles were so pale with no chocolate on them, and all the Deserts had cheap squirty cream, it was no way a great dinner and certainly not a treat, we were very disappointed and I felt it ruined my day a bit, I’ve been told the normal Sunday roasts are good so just think the set menu idea did not work today such a shame and such a waste of money, would definitely not want to go back there or recommend to friends !

Strange menu with venison and duck. Tried both but found that the sauces overpowered the flavour of the meat. There were a lot of staff but we still waited a long time for our bill. I was recommended this restaurant but don't think it lives up to it's reputation sadly. There is a better Indian restaurant in London Road. I won't go again.
