We were looking for a restaurant on the way to Kurokawa for lunch. Good local specialties with nice staff and no foreigners spotted (at least by this time). Suitable for families and groups. If you're VERY hungry do take the set menu, otherwise it's a little too much for one single westerner (even for me that I have a big appetite).

.... then you'll like Fujiya. The restaurant is conveniently located near the train station at Miyiagi (as are most). The staff are friendly and the menu has english subtitles. The food really is good and the steak was tasty. Best of all, its open late too!

A must-visit for dessert lovers if you are in the vicinity of Aso Shrine. A short 3 min walk from there is this little shop est since 1927. Everything we tried were good. Had cream puff (or at least that's what it looks like), chestnut cake and chiffon cake. All tasted excellent. They have log cake there as well since it is Christmas season. The cake was really moist and fine. Yummy!

We discovered this place through a Google maps search looking for a nice restaurant close to our hotel. This place is great for lunch and offers a wide selection of Japanese food in "Viking" version. You get 90 minutes to sample and taste great food made from local products. Deserts are good too and so drinks are included in the price. Perfect place to go with family and friends when visiting the area.

It is not really a restaurant it is a snack shop and market with tables where you can have the meal. The sell many different snacks, sweets, fruits and other things here and it is always crowded. It is near the station which makes it very convenient as well. You can take your snacks with you or you can eat them there inside or outside.

It is the most popular Japanese-style donburi shop near "Uchakomi Onsen" which is a traditional Aso hot-spring resort. It is a matter of course that waiting for an hour in a queue every day. The purpose is only one. Superb red beef don bowl! Sweet taste is too tasty, high quality frosted meat is touching feeling! First experience!

I visited this restaurant with friends and family and had a fantastic dinner of Aka-Ushi (Aso Beef) cooked over a hot plate at our table. The meat and farm-fresh vegetables were very tasty! The restaurant was very clean and had a nice view over the pond and surrounding farmland.
