The Tourist Office welcome you for helping during the stay. We get accomodation, activities and restaurants. Free wifi. French, english and spanish spoken.
We arrived in Cahors simply to stroll through the town and have a glass of local wine. The Office of Tourisme was exceptionally helpful, providing a good map, tips on a walking tour, and directions to the famous bridge.Thank you @Lynn1950 ! In our city, you can visit a lot of things : markets (wednesday and saturday mornings), Cathedral, Valentré Bridge, little Gardens and more ! and you can also drink a glass of local black wine (just nearest) ;) See you soon

This bridge is one of the "must-sees" of Cahors. Take the time if in the area to experience the capability of the workers in this medevil location. There are lovely photo oops from the bridge deck.

We're fans of Cathedral / church tours. Frankly, we've probably seen too many spectacular churches this year to be very objective. Regretfully, our Cathedral tours in Paris (including Notre Dame), Lerwick, Trondheim and Edinburgh all overshadowed the Cathedrale Saint-Etiennne.
Nevertheless, we did find the stained glass in CS-E to be very interesting. The glass on the sides is all relatively new glass due to the presence of the purple hue. We only wish we had been able to arrange a tour of CS-E to learn more.

We went here with family, children and cousins, five children from 10-14, 3 climbing adults and me on the ground peacefully Reading a book. All climbers had a great time. The courses varied in difficulty according to age. Not for the faint-hearted my husband says,...MoreThank you very much for the comment, see you :):)

The market occurs on Wednesday and Saturday. It officially runs from 7am to 1pm, but seems to go well into the afternoon. We arrived at around 10am and things were in full swing. Lots of stalls centered around the Cathedral square, but spilling into neighboring streets/alleys. Fresh food, including cheeses and meats are the predominant offerings, but clothing and other nick-nacks can also be found. There is a separate antiques & bric-a-brac market on the opposite side of town (new town area) about 5 minutes walk from the food market.
The market is well supported by locals and is a lively affair. Great fun to just walk around and observe.
Parking is at a premium, so come early (before 8am I would guess) or be prepared to walk for 10-15 minutes.

This free-to-enter museum is arranged on three floors covering the resistance in the Lot region, deportation and liberation. It's full of artefacts and really interesting reports and clippings but you really do need to be able to understand written French because there's nothing in English. Cahors itself is a lovely place to visit and you can easily spend an hour in here. It opens after 2 pm and there is a large ticketed car park opposite.

The Fontaine des Chartreux offer crystal clear waters and a lovely setting with a foot bridge. The Maison d'eau was closed when we visited except for the cafe on the other side of the building and the views of the bridge are amazing from there.

We called into the brewery whilst visiting wineries in the area. We were offered tastings but the lady serving didn't speak any English and even though my French is decent, we couldn't decipher each other. There were no tours happening and we had to pay for tastings - only 2 euro mind you for the equivalent of 2 small beers. The place was eerily empty and my beer loving hubbie told me their prices were about 5 times that of supermarket beer and he didn't love it enough to convince him it was worth it. Our little kids were very bored so we didn't linger.

This place offer the Cahors and Lot specialities at a fraction of the prices you see at the stores in downtown Cahors. They have a good selection of wines and you can taste if you want to. Big selection of Fois Grais, and they do have a good little corner with fresh produce, plus if you find a really good mango ice cream. Friendly and efficient service, and they will be more than happy to help and explain things when you ask them. Not sure if they speak english.
