We never imagined that Nepalese/Indian food could be so deliciously prepared in this far flung outpost in the North Sea--but it was truly wonderful. Chicken dishes were fresh and tender, breads were tasty, rice dishes were terrific, and the home made paneer was excellent. Gurkha is a great choice if you are in the mood for a change of pace from the delicious local Scottish/Shetland cuisine.

Located in the Shetland Museum and Archives, Hay's Dock Cafe Restaurant offers stunning views over Lerwick harbour and the best local produce, simply cooked and beautifully presented.
Arriving in Lerwick on a blustery wet day and found ourselves in the Hay Dock Cafe around lunch time. The Fish Chowder was a perfect Antidote to some pretty rubbish weather, so much so we popped in again the following week before we left to have a second go at it.....oh yes...and the cakes as well......and the coffee is good, nice view and the blinds are worth more than a cursory glance!!

Went in for a meal here, really delicious. The chicken dhansak is a hit with my hubby, I loved the lamb rogan josh. Waitress and waiters really polite, pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be back and would recommend a visit!

Fantastic breakfast served until 11am, homemade muesli, porridge, and freshly scrambled Shetland eggs. Delicious soups created every day in-house. Big doorstep sandwiches and panini made to order. Shetland smoked salmon specials. Tempting cakes, cheesecakes, scones and muffins baked daily. Last orders for food 4pm. We use local produce wherever possible. Always striving to make the best coffee. Sit outside on a fine day enjoying James's delicious cheesecake watching Lerwick life in action. Local Art Exhibitions. Free wifi.
had lunch here during Shetland wool week, and luckily Cullen Skink was on the menu. for us non-shetlanders it is a smoked fish chowder. Delicious.
I stopped back during the blowy rainy week and was always delighted by the food and the staff. this is one of the best places for lunch in Lerwick

We had a really excellent dinner at Bay Brasserie. Husband had steak with whisky sauce and loved it, followed by the pannacotta which had the perfect wobble. I had the hot seafood platter with cod, haddock, monkfish and mussels and everything was cooked perfectly. Service attentive and professional without being overbearing. View over the water lovely. We think Bay Brasserie is way under-rated versus a number of Lerwick restaurants that appear higher in the TripAdvisor rankings.

Visited here on the recommendation of the company we were visiting in Lerwick, who said it was the best Chinese restaurant in Shetland. We went for one of the many set menus and each course was tasty, piping hot and plentiful! With drinks the bill still came to less than £30 per head, so was good value. Without doubt would visit again, thanks for a pleasant evening.

Listed in yell.com at http://www.yell.com/s/restaurants-shetland+islands.html and I ate there last week.
Outside this restaurant looks unpromising, but inside it is cozy and welcoming. We really enjoyed our food and I discovered that soda and lime is an excellent drink with Oriental food. As another reader noted, the coconut rice is extremely good. Be aware that the entree and the rice to go with it are ordered and priced separately.

The service here is pleasant but rather unskilled- don't bother asking for advice or information about the menu or wine list. Indeed the wine list is very limited (loose printed pages with a few wines per category and most of those were not available). The decor has definitely seen better days. The menu is light on for information. We were rather concerned about what might emerge from the kitchen but we dined there on two nights and on both nights the food was excellent. So, despite a few issues, whoever is in the kitchen knows what they are doing and so we would certainly recommend this restaurant

I have been to this cafe on a previous trip and was looking forward to eating in this cafe since I booked my trip to Shetland. It did not disappoint, the fish and chips were amazing. It is a small cafe but clean and well run. It's a cash only place so remember to bring your purse /wallet with you

The Great Wall Is The Largest Chinese Resturant On The Shetland Islands
My wife and I were in Shetland visiting her parents and decided to go into Lerwick with them for a meal, I checked on TA and decided the Great Wall looked good and had plenty of positive reviews.
Noting that it opened at 16:30 for Dinner suited the four of us as we wanted to catch the 20:30 inter island ferry back home, we arrived at 17:00 and there were no other customers inside yet, hardly unusual so early in the day, we waited a few minutes and a staff member came out and showed us to a table gave us menus and took a drinks order.
Ten minutes passed and we received half of our drinks order and were told he’d be with us in a moment, another few tables had come in too and were looking for service, twenty more minutes passed with still no service or drinks and the other customers who had come on began to walk out, We paid for the drinks we did receive 2/4 and left at 17:55
50 minutes without even an attempt to take an order or let us know what the problem was, all it would have took is to say that for whatever reason they are not ready or at the very least give us an indication of when we could have ordered.
We headed over to the Indian across the road and enjoyed a very good meal.
I’m sure the food is worthy of the generally positive feedback this restaurant enjoys but sadly the lack of service resulted in 4 of us and 11 other diners simply walking out
Disaster of a place
