Island Park

As Portage was my home town in my childhood I have to visit each time I am back "home." I love the trees, flowers, the memorial garden and a great place to go for a walk along the pathways along the lake which is usually frequented by many ducks and geese. Also appreciate the markers along the pathway towards the park indicating all of the houses denoting the history of Portage la Prairie.

Splash Island Water Park

We visited Splash Island on a Thursday afternoon. It was hot and busy, but I was very impressed with the park. The pools were large and well maintained, and there was a lot of staff on. A big thing for me is the temperature of the water, and I found it comfortable enough to stay in. I'm very impressed with the recreation facilities that Portage has, considering the size of the town. We go often.

My spouse gave me a gift of a discovery flight at F&G Aviation flight school in Portage la Prairie.
On a Saturday afternoon, we met with the instructor, Rémi, a few minutes before the scheduled time. He was actually there before we were, which I appreciate as being serious when your a professional.
While being very sympathetic, Rémi did not neglect any aspect of our security and safety. He checked every aspect of the filght, involving us in the process, which I have to say made me very comfortable, confident, and trusting him. From insurance, to weight, to pre-flight check and even the quality of the fuel, we were involved in all the steps. It really shows the professionalism of the instructor and the seriousness of the school and owners.
The flight itself, was pure sensations.
Greg and Fabienne, the owners, are passionate about their business but also about meeting people.
Did I mention they are all fully bilingual? That also made a huge difference for me and added to my experience.
Thanks to all of this, I won't forget my first flight in the pilot seat!
Hopefully the first of many, and who knows, I'm now thinking that I could go for the license!
