Payakumbuh (Indonesian: Kota Payakumbuh, Minangkabau: Payokumbuah, Jawi: ڤايوكومبواه) is the second largest city in West Sumatra, Indonesia, with a population of over 127,000 people and an area of 80.43 km². It is in the Minangkabau Highlands, 120 km by road from the West Sumatran capital city of Padang and 180 km from the Riau capital city of Pekanbaru. The whole area is directly adjacent to the Lima Puluh Kota Regency. It is located near the volcano Mount Merapi, Mount Sago, and Bukit Barisan. Payakumbuh means "grassy swamp" in the Minangkabau language. It suggests that the area was originally swampy.

This one of the famous places to visit in West Sumatra, although to be honest, the canyon and rock cliffs themselves are not all that outstanding but the surrounding countryside with workers in rice fields was definitely interesting. Yes, this massive rock formation stands out above the flat lands surrounding it, but there are more interesting places to visit in West Sumatra. I enjoyed seeing the rice field workers, and especially the drive. A long way to go for this location and perhaps an hour is enough to spend at the canyon and another hour to explore the traditional houses, people and way of life..

Kelok means turn sembilan is nine so it is the Nine Turns. It is situated in the narrow valley and before there was narrow and steepy road with nine 180 degree turn. Now a megastructure bridge was built. This fly over bridge is maybe the most wonderful one in Indonesia. There are many visitors want to see but there is no designated place to stop there.

We walked up to the cave entrance. Good experience for me and the kids who had never been to any cave before.
There was a stone named The crying Mother. However the cave was rather dry and no more 'tears' came from the stone. We could see the bats too.
Going down from Ngalau Indah, we could enjoy the beautiful view of paddy fields and mountain in PayaKumbuh.

Actually this place is the huge cow husbandry owned by the government. However the view is amazing, the place is so green. Very beautiful. You can find 3 different kinds of cow here. It was looks like in New Zealand.

Kepala Bandar is the name of the village. The words mean River Head. This attraction is very popular to the locals. Here you can enjoy the riding of bamboo rafting or walking aroud the river side. There is not so much to see and the public toilet need improvement.

If you like to see local attraction, you have to find the right time to see this event.
This race a little different from race bull in madura island (another place). The race's held for local people spend time and rating the prince of the bull. Yes, it's also held for sell the bulls but there're no price tag on any bull.
One rider with 2 bulls will pass the mud track. The track can be straight or narrow and it made from the rice field that has been harvested before.
Take the safe spot to see the race, watch them from far away first to see where the bull will run. If you took from the side track, be ready to get mud spilt.
There will be a lot of people watch the race, so be careful when put your things. People will come from variety place to enjoy this event.
We join the race in tanah datar area, in the middle of the day, so make sure you bring hat to protect your head from the sun burn, wearing suitable cloth and try to mingle with the local.
The rider is amazing, they can ride the bull with only climb a plow and hanging their hand on the bull's tail.
There must be some skill and guts to do it.
