Locorotondo is a town and comune of the Metropolitan City of Bari, Apulia, southern Italy, with a population of about 14,000. The city is known for its wines and for its circular structure which is now a historical center, from which derives its name, which means "Round place". It is located in south-east Murgia, deep in the Itria Valley, dotted with white prehistoric roundhouses called trulli.

The church is located in the large piazza at the top of this hilltop town next to the municipal building. If you have time Locorotondo is worth a visit however if you have to select between here and visiting nearby Alberobello, definitely go to see the trulli buildings in Alberobello.

The cheese factory Salatino is at the clients disposal offering them this experience with biological products of it's own produce and tradition of Puglia .Everything is producend wilh local milk from the Valley of Itria without adding various additives using only milk, rennet, salt and milk enzymes. Making an appointement with us it is possible to do a tour of knowledge and tasting with the typical products Puglia of our cheese factory.
I would like to add an English review to the long list of Italian ones (but they surely add to the authenticity of this wonderful cheesemakers' reputation!) On arrival in southern Italy, we had an aim to enjoy as much fresh cheese as possible and when I read that this place offers tours and cheese tasting, I got in touch via email at fairly short notice to see if we could join a tasting/tour. I was informed that the tour (with English translator) was €15 and the degustation was €15pp. It was a little above our budget but we were keen so we agreed...it turned out to be a very informal affair. I think that the more formal tour/tasting arrangement is probably usually reserved for larger Italian-speaking groups, however don't let that deter you if you're really interested in seeing how fresh cheese is made! It's a fascinating process which is still very hands-on with little automation. The owners and cheesemakers spoke very little English but we enjoyed learning a lot by watching, and also the owner's friend came to do some translation which was very nice! The facility is small, just one large room plus storage and the shop area so don't expect a huge facility to walk through! We were allowed to taste some Mozzarella that had been made minutes earlier...this was amazing, so sweet and delicious and the texture was amazing. Nothing like the mush you often buy in the supermarkets outside of Italy. This set the bar very high for the rest of our trip...we visited many caseificios after this one and very very few stood up to the freshness that we found here. We didn't have a formal degustation platter like is shown in the photos here, so perhaps that is why we were not charged for it in the end - which enabled us to afford some lovely Mozzarella, Burrata and more to take home, at very reasonable prices I might add. Overall, I highly recommend a visit here even if just to buy cheese, but also if you would like to see how the cheese is made, they make cheese in the afternoons every day except Sunday - finishing about 5:30pm, so if you go then it may be possible to ask to view the cheesemaking for a few minutes if you can't pre-arrangement a formal tour. The owners were so friendly and proud to show us their business, I wish we had somewhere like this to buy cheese at home!!

Locorotondo in Puglia is a wonderful city to visit. The town is a gem set on a hill overlooking the Itria Valley. My family hosted an exchange student from Locorotondo and since then I have visited the city three times. The town is not touristy, but rather quiet and tranquil. You can also stay in a Trullo, walking distance to the city center. It is well worth the visit. On of my visits I have been in Locorotondo for the festival of San Rocco and have watched the Sagra Pirotecnica - the fireworks display that occurs after the procession of the Statue of San Rocco through the streets of Locorotondo. The event begins late and competing fireworks companies entertain the crowds with wonderful light displays that last for hours. This was a truly amazing experience, and a highlight of the trip. Loads of fun for the entire family. Highly recommended by Melissa Muldoon, la studentessa matta

Locorotondo is situated between Martina Franca and Alberobello in the valle d'Itria, that is a green countryside dotted with cone-roofed trulli houses. It is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
Locorotondo doesn't have any specific tourist attractions, the town itself is the main sight .
The historic part of town is circular and goes to the top of a hill.It has a maze of whitewashed buildings with baroque archways. There are a few churches, the most notable is a romanesque church Della Madona dela Grece, from the 12-13th century.
The best view is from the top of the town.
