I visited this small gallery on my wanderings through Battambang. Lovely pictures made with true feeling. The owner greeted me and chatted like we were old friends. A nice place to spend half an hour thinking about the warmth of strangers and differences that can sometimes bind us together...

We sat, with lots of other tourists, down on the roadside below the Bat Caves after we had visited the hilltop shrine at Phnom Sampeou. There was an air of expectancy among all the people lined up at the roadside, standing, sitting, all waiting. And all of us with our eyes firmly fixed on a cave entrance high up on the rocky face of the hill, waiting for the bats. Around us stall traders were selling drinks and snacks. And then, at about 5.30pm, the first few bats flew out of the cave and circled around and then were joined by others, and then others. Soon a steady stream of bats emerged from the cave and increased into a huge number of bats, literally thousands, and they all flew off, with thousands more still coming out of the cave behind them! It was an amazing sight. The sky blackened as there were so many and they flew in fantastic formation. Quite a spectacle!!

ROMCHEIK 5 is nominated in the TOP 10 BEST INDEPENDENT Art spaces in S.E. Asia and N° 1 in Cambodia (The Guardian / November 2017) ! Romcheik 5 is the name of the neighbourhood of Battambang where, in 2012, 4 young artists (20 to 25 years old) have established their studios with the help of a donor. In 2015, this space has been extended with the construction of a building sheltering an art gallery and a little museum with a permanent collection of their best artworks. The entrance to the all site is charged 2 $ 50, to contribute to the maintenance of the premises and the purchase of artist materials. Some artworks may be for sale and a donation from visitors who have enjoyed their visit is of course welcome.
Until we arrived we didn't realize that Battambang his a historic art center with several excellent galleries. This one is definitely worth the tuk tuk ride and $2,50 admission to see the gallery/museum. The paintings by Hour Seyha are especially remarkable. You get more insight...MoreTHANK YOU for your review ; it great help for us

We'll start in the morning, whenever you want. I will pick you up from the hotel. After a short briefing, I first let you see how the people are making rice noodles. After that, we are going to see how the old lady is rolling the cigarettes. After that, we are going to see how the people are making rice papers for spring rolls. After that we are going to Ek Phnom temple. After the temple, we are taking the countryside road, and I stop for a while to explain you about how the people are living around that villages. After that we are going to see how the people are making the Cambodian cheese. After that, we are taking the countryside again to see how the people are making the bamboo sticky rice (cake). Lunch time :you can have it on the way at the countryside or come to have lunch in the city. It's up to you. Then we continue our trip to the Bamboo train and on the bamboo train you can see the (countryside and small villages). And after that we are going back to the hotel . Included: Pick up and drop off, free information, petrol, tuktuk or motorbike. Not included: entrance fees, lunch
This temple is about 30km from Battambang, quite near the "replica" Bamboo Train. It's worth hiring a tuk tuk (or a scooter) and making a trip to it. The day we went the artificial lake and restaurants were virtually deserted, there were only a couple of people up at the temple and it was quiet and rather beautiful. Fortunately we're fit, so the steps weren't a problem (steep, lots) but I'd think twice about visiting if you're not. A solitary female monk was worshipping at the temple. It's pretty ruinous, but the lack of people and the ambience made it a little bit special.

Phnom Sampeau is a remarkable hill-top setting outside Battambang that is now clearly a major tourist attraction. Obviously too it is an important place for Cambodian people to visit though you'd wonder where they all are as it is hard to discern any extensive settlements around it. You have to get admission tickets for the drive up to where you start waling from. All along the drive are a varied range of market stalls selling all sorts of things. There are approximately 1,200 steps/paces up to the hilltop, where there is a pristine pagoda and stupa, and magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. Monkeys jumped around on the steps and walls as we walked along, and we got to see a procession of monks making their way to the pagoda. Well worth visiting -- and on our way back we got to join other tourists to wait for and watch the dramatic daily flight of thousands of bats from a nearby cave, a flight that literally darkens the sky as there are so many bats.

Experiencing Cambodian culture and traditional life style
This is the ancestral home of a family of the Khmer elite and NOT a "typical Khmer house" like some reviewers seem to suggest. Take note of the excellent, high quality wood work where 3 different types of wood are used for various reasons. Also look up and see the roof construction. Worth a stop when in town.

This historical site is at 12kms north of city , along way to this attraction, passing villages and passing rice fields. 2$ entrance fee at the ticketbooth is paid to tourist police then passing to the archaeological ruins with big white bhudda on the right side and primary open air school. There is a monastery in front of the ruins. Few tourists visit this site but it's scenic ride along the villages and rice fields.
