The Poço do Inferno can be reached by driving along the road to Torre from Manteigas for about 8 km until reaching the sharp turnoff to the left and following a narrow winding road through the forest for another 5 km. Here you reach the ample car park and an information board. The sealed road continues on for another 3 km or so through the forest. At the end of the car park to the right is the Poço do Inferno, easily reached by stairs and hand rails. The Poço is a large, clear pool fed by a waterfall some 10 m high. The outflow continues on the other side of the road also forming a waterfall and large pool. This is reached by a long stairway leading off the carpark down through the trees. Much more interesting is the small trail heading to the left up the hill beside the information board. This trail leads to a lookout onto a further pretty pool above the Poço do Inferno and also branches off to the right to head up the right hand side of the valley, always looking down to the river, often far below. This is a narrow, rocky trail through exposed subalpine terrain, with wild flowers, grasses, mosses and lichens amongst the striking rocky outcrops. As you head up the valley the trees become smaller and fewer, and the trail eventually crosses the stream over a wooden bridge. Here the trail leaves the stream bed and you hike through open grassy terrain with much broom, in flower, when we were there. The trail sidles back in the direction of the car park for a while through large trees and some fallen trunks before turning to the right and following the road, occasionally visible below, for a couple of kilometers. You finally come out on a wide dusty trail that turns left at a large junction to the sealed road leading back to the car park some 3 km away to the left through the forest. This is a nice hike, some 5 km in all, including side trips, through variable terrain that needs at least 3 hours for a decent traverse. The exposed rocky section with its near vertical strata is exhilarating. So, don't just stay at the Poço, head up the trail and enjoy.

I was not impressed with Viveiro das Trutas. There is not much to see there. I think some part of it is closed because it looked very small to me. You are better off walking to the village and exploring it or enjoying some "queijo da serra" (mountain cheese) with a super bock beer.

Last year we purchased from the Burel shop in Lisbon. We determined to visit the home site. Good decision. Very, very interesting tour. Something out of the past. No internet there. Not a criticism. People actually working. Wool being turned into yarn, then into fabric and then into products. Great. The past comes alive which we like. Plus, the products are outstanding.

The simulation of flight is a mix up between actual photos and Google Earth. The dialogue was in Portuguese, no idea if they have got it in English.
If you are short of time, ask not to see the next filming about the (old) keepers of the forest (guardas florestais), it is not worth it.
You have got also some interactive systems, which your kids might like to explore.
It was also a convenient place to stop to used the very clean WC.
The worker there is also quite friendly, and will gladly answer any questions you might have about the nearby attractions.
I did not find any of their goods worth buying.

Located in the heart of Serra da Estrela's Natural Park, the Skiparque was projected to serve all of those who desire to find discovery and adventure, offering diversified options throughout the year. Our facilities: - Camping Park (animals allowed); - Fluvial Beach; - A learning synthetic ski course; - A Half-Pipe; - Support Bars; - Adventure Park; - Schist houses where you can rest.
For many years I have been going to the area on holiday and always visit skiparque which has fantastic amenities and views, and close to the river mondego with an artificial beach, bar and restaurants close by. If you like country side and Mountains this the place to go in Portugal.
