With its medieval streets and half-timbered houses Wertheim is like a smaller version of Miltenberg, however it also was an important river port since the mouth of the Tauber River is here. From the photogenic river area enter through a gate-tower into the main street and market square which lead to the path up to the attractive castle ruins. Wertheim is also famous for its glass works and glass blowing.

This former "Kallenbach'schen Haus" dating back to 1577, as well as the adjacent half-timbered House, houses Baden-Württemberg‘s only glass museum. Exhibits of antique luxury glass, history of the glass industry, glass beads, glass Cabinet in science and industry, glassblowing demonstrations, etc. When we visited there was a temproary display of a large (and thus costly) collection of paperweights.

Cistercian monasteries are often the most interesting. The philosophy of a self-sustaining existence leads to a somewhat common architecture style. Often placed by streams and rivers, the Cistercian monasteries usually have mills and sometimes forges. Bronnbach is no exception.
The building is under a long-term, incremental renovation. The administration has opted to sponsor Concerts and the sale of local wines. The halls are often used for weddings and other social events.
As a tourist destination it has advantages and shortcomings, most related to the relatively limited tourist flow. Schedules are annoyingly flexible and things often seem disorganized. The tour we took was highly informative and our guide extremely knowledgeable. On the positive side, the lack of visitors enabled us to move freely and at our own pace.
The cafe offered a nice variety of tasty cakes and pastries. The wine degustation could have been more informative and better thought out. Instead, it was more of a restaurant portion at a very reasonable price. Alas, it was not informative enough for us to make our usual purchase of bottled wines.
Still, Kloster Bronnbach is well worth the small entrance fee.

In this external rather ornamented but interior rather bare church one can notice he "Wertheimer Madonna" from 1325 (entrance holy Spirit Chapel) traditionally proposed as a loving mother. The prayer room still contains frescoes of the altar Mensa and "three Holy maidens" from its construction period and late Gothic frescoes in the modern northern nave. The famous tomb was removed due to restauration.

This "Angel fountain" in 1574 was created as urban water source (architect Michael Matzer and sculptor Mathes Vogel). Two Angels bear the Earl‘s society coat of arms, further secular figures (shire reeve, Councillor, Stadtbaumeister, artists), planets with their zodiac (known in that perticular period): Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Hermes.

This 13th century "pointed Tower" is a whopping 36.5 m high and was used as a guard and Watchtower, in 15th century equipped with 8 octagonal superstructure, served also as a prison for "drunks and ever scheldende women". In the Interior the so-called "fear Liège, the original entrance was 10 meters above the ground and was only accessible via a ladder. It is a pitty its interior is not used for exibitions or representations, such a missed opportunity.

Originally the historical association also collected glass objects which were given in loan when the glass museum was established. The Museum currently has approximately 19000 objects as well as 1000 coins. In addition to the original collection (history counts von Wertheim, monarchs and mid-class, guilds, folk art and clothing), new themes (such as music, religious history, history of the displaced). Also the collection of paintings of Otto Modersohns as well as graphics and paintings of other artists who have had an influence on city Wertheim are constantly expanded.
