We had the opportunity to make a second visit tho the Weisssee Gletcherwelt due to extremely good weather conditions this later September day. The sun was up and this time we didn't climb the ladders, but hiked the long way up to the icy lake. The walk took around 1,45 - 2 hrs and is on the tricky side. Even if you feel that it normally wouldn't be a problem to you, please remember that you are some 2.500 metres above sea level, meaning that there is less oxygen in the air. It will definitely make you tired more easily. That said, it is worth a struggle. On our trip up there is was so nice that some in our group decided to take a dip in the icy water! Well, some are crazier than the rest of us.

I joined two of the walks that are very well organised by the National Park. They produce a programme of walks called Wintertouren and you just phone them to book yourself on. I went on a gorgeous 3 hour walk up a river valley at Hollersbach. Hannis our guide was informative on the area, flora and fauna. The following week I went on a snow shoe walk and Hannis was our guide again. We went up near Passturn with fantastic views over the valley and Mountains. These walks are free with your guest card, so a bargain!

The Joker card, included in our hotel rate, enabled into ride this for free. About 10 mins to the top station at 1,480m from where there are spectacular views, and a plethora of walks over the hills are available. It's a nice easy downhill walk back to Saalbach, about 90 minutes non stop, or longer if you stop, as we did, for a leisurely lunch at one of several establishments you pass on the way down. A great day's activity.

Carefully constructed to reflect the natural beauty of the mountain and glacier. The hike through the mountain leads to a viewing platform with good visibility you can see for miles.

The Kitzbuhel Alps Panorama Lift Hollerbach Mittersill is the direct access to the Kitzbuhel ski area. Unlimited fun in the snow and skiing fun from Salzburg to Tirol. This means without the ski take off it goes directly to the world-famous Kitzbuhel Streif. Without waiting times and no rush on the slopes, but - thanks to the north-east slopes with guarantees perfect snow conditions! There are 53 lifts and 170 km of slopes!
We came to Kitzbuhel to experience a northern hemisphere winter and snow. Unfortunately for us, we must have brought th Aussie summer with us, and was told they have had an unseasonably warm winter. Warmest in decades! Alas we still managed to enjoy the ski resort town- without snow.

We took an impromptu trip to Austria for the first week of the new year and selected an apartment in Kaprun with the intention of signing the kids (and us!) up for skiing lessons there...upon arrival we met the owner of the apartment and mentioned our plans, she immediately told us to go to here instead- the groups will be smaller and the staff are great she said...
Well, she was right! The entire crew there at Erlebnisberg Naglköpfl are wonderful from the head guy in the ski shop (who was also our ski instructor) to the team in the cafe/ski hut.
We were so pleased with the advice and ended up going back there four days in a row - it was the ideal place for us for the first real ski trip...easy to get to, great service and spectacularly affordable (family lift pass is a bargain so is equipment rental).
Highly recommend this place for first time / new skiers, check them out online!!

We went to this small museum in Mittersill on a rainy day, and we are glad that we did! There were some explanations in English which helped us to understand the local social history. Once finished in the main museum, we discovered there were several old buildings behind that museum to explore. They included a landhaus as people would have lived in it in the past; a school house; a garage with fire trucks; and a barn!
If you are interested in how people lived their everyday lives in the past, then you would enjoy a few hours at this museum.

Using the Schattberg x-press allows you get wonderful views of the area. Also it is a good starting place for some excellent walks.
Recommended walk - To Shattberg-west, then down to Hacklebergeralm via route 7 (wonderful food) and then down to Hinterglemm. About a 3 hour walk but well worth it.

This ski lift leads to a nice mountain-top bar serving tasty hot chocolate! Blue runs 11 and 12 down from the top are great runs, even for beginners.
The views are fantastic of course and the restaurants along the way offer tasty snacks and drinks if you need a break.
