We were looking for a fun, authentic Austrian restaurant and Goassstal was perfect. Located on the side of the mountain you can either arrive by skiing or from the street below, it’s an intense climb. Follow the one arrow which points upward on the street. There is a wood door that leads through a tunnel under the slope to the restaurant. We missed the tunnel and walked up the slope. Another arrow would have been helpful. However the vibe was apparent as soon as we arrived. There is much outdoor Seating full to the brim with skiers. We opted to sit inside. It was crowded but that just added to the ambiance. We shared a table with another couple and enjoyed a cappuccino. Big screen tv was on and everyone was watching slalom races. The goat decor with an Austrian twist was fun. Even live goats could be seen behind glass Ziachi/Rene was our server. He was both attentive and informative about the restaurant. We wanted to come back for dinner but they were fully occupied. Make Reservations in advance to enjoy this truly authentic Austrian restaurant. Make the effort via skiing or walking so worth it.

From reviews on TripAdvisor we learned that this probably is a nice place to go. It is indeed! As was said in some earlier reviews, do not count on the classic Austrian kitchen, as you may find in Meilinger Taverne. (Do note that it's a bit more expensive too - but worth it!!) The dishes are "modern", sometimes with an Italian touch, and the description in the menu alone made my mouth water. I had a lovely starter of "Ziegenkäse" on spinach. The main course was absolutely fantastic; "Catch of the day" (Rotbarsch; I think it's called redfish in English) with an amazing 'risotto' of quinoa, couscous and langustine. The lovely taste kept lingering in my mouth right until dessert, which was white chocolate cheesecake. It was very good too, as was the small bonbon accompanying the tea. Except for tasting very well, the dishes were lovely to look at too. The personnel was very friendly and professional, and still easy to chat with. I loved this experience and really don't have anything negative to say about this restaurant.

Visited here for dinner and we waited around 15 minutes to be seen by staff, despite the restaurant not being busy. When we were eventually seen, we began to order. The waitress then became distracted by another table (locals) and left us to go speak to them. After dealing with the other table the waitress walked passed us and ignored us. She then went to the bar and started doing other work. We waited another 5 minutes before walking out. Disgusting service to tourists. It's been an unfortunate trend that I have seen where locals are treated much better than tourists. Avoid this place and go to Braeurup where we visited for the 2nd time in 3 days. Much better service and food is the same price and awesome beer too.

Right on town square of Mittersill is the small Restaurant Meilinger Taverne in an 350 year old historic red building. 70 seats inside in two locations and 12 seats on the terrasse in front of the house. Anneliese Klackl and her small team offer Austrian cuisine. She makes everything out of fresh local, seasonal products. Host Robert Klackl manages the service together with Katharina and Andrej.
There were activities in the town center so it was very busy, we got a table but had to share it with other guests. The food was good, but not very original. The same dressing was used in the starter dish and in the main course.
Too expensive.

Although the service is average - Austrian hospitality is not fantastic, on average they do not seem to enjoy having guests - the food was outstanding. In particular the pasta with oil, garlic and prawns. We had it one day, had to come back for seconds. With a nice bottle Ried Gaisberg, it is a thought meal to match. We will come again.

First of all the place is in an amazing castle dated in the 11th century!! The castle have the most amazing view of the valey and Mittersill. The restaurant is very good, offering tasty food, had a fish. The prices is very reasonable. Furthur more, this hotel is an amazing place so you should consider sleeping there

As this was very highly rated, we had gone with above average expectations. The menu is extensive and there will be something to suit the whole family. The flavours were also very good but hard to truly enjoy when the ribs and the chicken wings all came over-charred. We had to cut half the skin off all the chicken as it was black and dry. Likewise the ribs were also dry. Not sure if it was an off evening,,,?

Nearly missed the restaurant, you need to be over on the far righthand side and don't think what you see if where its happening, its all round the other side. We were very lucky with the weather and sat on the Terrace, there is a large one beyond the end of the building. Amazing service very attentive and with a sense of humour. We all had various Austrian specialities and weren't disappointed. Will be back!
