Situated in the town centre a few mins walk from the train station this museum provides an interesting insight into the geological history of the region. It is easy to find from the Station by following the yellow Mammoth footprints on the foot path and the grounds are great to walk around on a dry day with fossils dotted around to touch and examine at close quarters. The Highlight of the museum is the huge Mammoth Skeleton on the upper floor which will fascinated all ages. There are also bones of Mountain Lions and other animals that used to roam the area as well as various fossils and recreations of different caves systems. Guides are available in English and the museum is suitable for all ages.

Chiemse is one of the most beautiful places in Germany.
On its biggest island is situated one of the 4 King Ludwig II palaces and castles: Herrenchiemsee Palace.
It is a Versailles like Palace at a smaller scale, yes, but still really exquisite and thus absolutely worth the visit.
It should be the proper ending of a tour of the 3 other Palaces.
If you happen to land at Munich Airport on your way to Salzburg in Austria, then you will likely drive along this lake on the highway A8.
Then you really must stop for a few hours at this lake.
Taking the Ferry (Schifffahrt) at Prien Am Chiemse, you'll reach the 1st island to Herrenchiemsee Palace.
Then I suggest you continue to the next island: Fraueninsel which also absolutely beautiful with its Monastery and its superb flowery Gardens...
The whole fare from Prien to the 2 Islands and back will cost around 12 Euros.
If you have made enough time you can also take the full ride for the 3 Islands.
I have posted reviews and pictures to these 2 sites, you can see them to try to get a better feeling rather than Reading these lines ...

Lovely gondola ride to the top of the mountain, then a nice leisurely walk around the top before a lovely meal and drink in the restaurant at the top. Then back to the bottom on the Rauschberg bahn

We went on a day-trip to Bergen and took the cable car up the mountain. Once on top, the view is amazing. We had perfect blue sky and the paragliders were gearing up for their flights. We sat down and got food and a chilled beer. Perfect setting for a lunch at that elevation with a spectacular backdrop!

Due to business meetings, We stayed in the monastery for a whole week. The island itself is small and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete a full circle along the coastline.
The restaurant over there serves good food and also there is a beer brewery for beer lovers. In my opinion, there is nothing much to see other than walking around and admiring the nature. Must for nature lovers.

This is one of the best beach bathes at Chiemsee. There are 3 different food places, all with cosy beer garden type Seating. There is also a good playground for the little ones. The beach is less stony than other Chiemsee entry points. Great sunsets. Gets crowded in high season, but which places doesn't.

Having walked from Ruhpolding to Siegsdorf via Maria Eck we arrived at Siegsdorf bahnof some 30 minutes before the next train was due. The penalty for walking too quickly is me having to spend my money on cakes, coffee and ice-creams and this bar was only 2-3 minutes walk away from the bahnof. It’s situated adjacent to tourist information and the Rathaus in a modern building with tables and chairs outside. We ordered two coffee’s which came with two glasses of water and a generous portion of apple strudel with a vanilla pod ice cream. Good cake and coffee and good value at €2.90 for the strudel €2.20 each for the coffee. Total €7.30. The waiter/owner was a friendly chap who spoke some English. If you are in Siegsdorf or close to the bahnof please do give it a try.

The museum is about iron production, set in a former iron works building, with a focus on the local production of iron. It is all in German but interesting all the same, especially if you have a science/engineering background.
It is free to enter if you have the Inzell Card or 3.50 euros if not.
It is located a short walk away from the Hochfelln-Seilbahnen cable car (also free with the Inzell Card) but is does have its own parking.
