There are many beautiful shops here. Sergio Bustamente Gallery is always our favorite. He is such a wonderfully talented artist! What an imagination this man has! Don't miss this. Also has a very lovely selection of interesting jewelry. I received an early birthday present today, which I love.

This view pertains only to the ceramic museum that is housed adjacent to El Refugio. Every year for 40 or so years the Center holds a completion for ceramic artists from around Mexico. The museum houses many of the award winners from this competition. The work is fantastic. The level of talent in these pieces far exceeds what one can see in the regional museum of ceramic art on Calle Independencia. I can't speak about the rest of the Centro Cultural El Refugio but the ceramic museum there is fantastic.

A fabulous array of local pottery and ceramic styles...historically traditional as well as current artists' approaches to traditional methods. You can't find a more appropriate setting than this beautiful old estate in the middle of Independencia. Well worth taking a look inside...and find yourself in another world.

The museum is unbelievable. You walk through galleries and side galleries and each room is more amazing. The displays are open and you can see the pieces from different angles. Each year, there is a competition from all over Mexico and winners are selected to be part of the permanent exhibit. The winners are displayed in a central location until the pieces are integrated into the main collection. Like every museum in Mexico you wish there were publications in English. We bought a book containing pictures of the collections. I could have spent hours looking at the pieces.

Great place to look around and come across something random, or not so random. Great supply of Tequila and candy. Staff is very friendly and will let you have samples of certain brands. They are all reasonably, fairly priced and worth buying here VS at the airport. Just ask them to double wrap it and remember pack it in your checked bag, don't take it in your carry on.
Happy Shopping!

Alejandro Calvillo is the agent for a most amazingly talented artist - Cesar Placencia. We have bought four paintings done by Cesar now, which we love and are continually complimented on. Cesar has an extreme amount of talent and can create anything from a photo. We were so happy to see that Alejandro had now opened up a gallery and, not only has paintings, but so many incredible pieces of furniture that are unique, one of a kind pieces. If in Tlaquepaque, this is a do not miss this gallery, if even just to have a look. The owner Alejandro is friendly, charming and will give you a most warm welcome.
