10 Things to Do in Skopelos That You Shouldn't Miss

March 17, 2018 Kandra Bartel

Skopelos (Greek: Σκόπελος) is a Greek island in the western Aegean Sea. Skopelos is one of several islands which comprise the Northern Sporades island group, which lies east of the Pelion peninsula on the mainland and north of the island of Euboea. It is part of the Thessaly region. Skopelos is also the name of the main port and the municipal center of the island. The other communities of the island are Glossa and Neo Klima (Elios). The geography of Skopelos includes two mountains over 500 m (1,640 ft); Delphi (681 m/2,234 ft) in the center of the island, and Palouki (546 m/1,791 ft) in the southeast. With an area of 96 square kilometres (37 sq mi) Skopelos is slightly larger than Mykonos (85 km/33 sq mi) and Santorini (73 km/28 sq mi). The nearest inhabited islands are Skiathos to the west and Alonissos to the east.

The church is amazing! Lots of steps to climb but what fab views! There is a tiny beach nearby and because the sea was rough, we had it all to ourselves! There is also a very good café where you can enjoy a coffee after the climb to the church.

Hovolo Beach

There are a lot of Beaches on the island of Skopelos. As expected many of them are filled with tourists. Neo Klima/Elios has fewer tourists and more locals. It is a clean and safe beach. It is very nice for families. There are several activities which operate our of this beach including Kayaking (Sea Kayak Center of Skopelos with Yvonne and Neil) and Standup Paddle Boarding with Shane. It is not far from the village of Glossa. You can take a taxi or the bus. Taxis are very affordable on the island. It costs about 10 Euro from the Glossa taxi stand to the beach. We used Jimmy (Tsaknis Dimitrios) almost exclusively. He lived in Canada for a number of years and is fluent in both English and Greek. +30 6978 025 718 (Tell him Tom and Linda recommended him). Since the Beaches on Skopelos are primarily rocks rather than sand, I recommend swim/water shoes. As everywhere on the island, the water is totally clear. You can see the bottom of the sea even standing up on a paddle board, kayaking, and swimming.

We spent a week at the Panormos beach apartments, found the rooms very spacious and clean only fault I can mention is the double bed wasn't the most comfortable, the beach is only a few meters away from you back door crystal clear water. There are quite a few tavernas along the beach front to choose from. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Visited twice in September and it certainly was lovely.
First week in September and wasn't too crowded plenty of good quality sunbeds either on beach or under shady trees.
The sea was crystal clear and warm and the views spectacular.
We returned third week in September and it was crowded and noisey and we didn't stay just had a different vibe so we went to Milia instead.
There's a good taverna and sunbeds free if u buy a drink or eat something.
Definitely worth a visit and it may be your favourite

Milia Beach

Very long beach, at the two ends there are no umbrellas, in the middle there are many umbrellas and sunbeds and few bars- some with music. The part in front of Milia apartments is really nice as there is only one row of sunbeds and nobody really sits in front, all the other parts have up to three rows of sunbeds, which makes the bewch look wuite packed. On the Milia side, there is a bar with sunbeds on a higher level so not exactly on the beach but exactly above it- also under the trees. There it is also very nice. Water is clean, the only downside is lack of sand.

Limnonari Beach

The water is absolutely amazing, the beauty of the forest around- too. The beach itself is long and narrow which would be fine if there were not that many people. People are also sitting in front of the front line sun beds and they are literally in your feet. Otherwise, there are a lot of bars and 2 restaurants. There are sunbeds and mattresses also on the lawn behind the beach so you can sit there is you are not bithered by the wasps.
If with a car, parking is a real challenge, the road itself is wpqute narrow and not that easy, but parking is way more difficult because there is barely any place. Again, going there at 9:00 am would definiely help to find a spot. Just manage your expectations accordingly so you do not brewk your nerves at the beach after trying to park for twenty minutes.

I love this beach due to its location and clean water.
Unfortunately it is some times become overcrowded, especially during weekends and people are of all sorts. I really hate to see people that litter.
Anyhow, there are sun lounges and umbrellas (7 eur two chairs and one umbrella) and a quite decently priced bar.
The only downside is that I believe they are a little too closed to each other for my taste.

Agnondas Beach

This is our favourite beach as it only has about 40 parasols, so it is a lot quieter than many of the others. Ideal for those who want it a bit quieter, tends to be popular with those who only need a nice taverna with no sports facitities.
