We decided very last minute to do a one night getaway to wine country to cycle to the wineries and visit experience the Pelorus Mail Boat - we came without Reservations figuring that getting a winter room would not be too hard. The first Winery we went to recommended this place and I am so glad they did. The hosts are so nice and you can use their bikes if you stay their (we had brought our own) We stayed in a king bed room very spacious with a small patio outside of our room, and a bright bathroom. The beds were so comfortable we were asleep before we had a chance to use the hot tub. They provide a wonderful breakfast of yogurt, frutis, homemade jams and great coffee. Nice way to start the day. We will be back

The Gardens are stunning and the cellar door beautiful.
Very welcoming and friendly staff who offered far more wines for tasting than on the list for the day - complimentary as well. Tasting tailored to our wine preferences which was a very nice touch. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to have our purchases shipped straight home.

Forrest Wines Cellar Door

Our Marlborough winery and tasting room are nestled in amongst our vineyards in the heart of Sauvignon Blanc country just outside of the town of Renwick. At the entrance to Forrest wines stands a prominent stone wall built of the very stones that come from the surrounding area of the Wairau Valley. Beyond the wall the drive way winds through our oldest Sauvignon Blanc vineyard, over the small stone bridge and into a beautiful park setting, with willow trees and a duck pond, picnic tables, badminton, tennis and patenque. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, with toys for children of all ages. You may even catch a glimpse of Frankie the family Border Collie, she is so welcoming. The tasting room has a casual kiwi feel with couches, bean bags and outdoor furniture. A large variety of wines is on offer, a chance to taste a couple of your favourites or be adventurous and try a tasting tray with your choice of six wines. We pride ourselves on providing informative discussions about our wines, winemaking and our region. A selection of picnic nibbles is available for light lunches with cheeses, antipasto, smoked mussels and more. This was another vineyard that our hotel and a number of websites recommended. When I asked about ordering food, the lady told me they really didn’t have anthing except some cheeses to go with wine. A menu listed other items, but she clearly didn’t seem interested in whether we stayed or not so we left.

A small private vineyard with tasting available. Their small batch wines have excellent critical reception, and after trying a few, many from our group purchased bottles. Dog Point Vineyard

Specialist wine producers since 2002, Dog Point insists on low cropped vines and hand-picked fruit whilst adhering to an organic regime. Their philosophy is to produce regionally distinctive wines that will drink well now and age gracefully for many years. Four wines are produced at Dog Point: - A typical Marlborough style of Sauvignon Blanc - Section 94, a Sauvignon Blanc aged and fermented in barrel - A Chardonnay - A Pinot Noir Vineyard tours and tastings are welcome by appointment only.

Reviewed By JimdagOG - San Diego, California

By appointment only, but if you're serious about sampling quality Marlborough wines, Dog Point has to be on your short list. This is a sit-down tasting with the winemaker who will offer a limited (four) sampling but will take the time to discuss winemaking variables and decision making that determines the unique characteristics of each bottling (e.g., wild yeast, pre-phylloxera Mendoza vines, and barrel aging versus steel fermentation). Very rewarding but not a visit for wine novices.
