We had a blast rafting with Yiannis down the Voidomatis River, we were sad when it was over! All the gear and equipment was provided and Yiannis was a enthusiastic, skillful and most of all, safe, guide. Yiannis made sure we knew what we were doing but that we also had a great time, he provided all sorts of info about the area, flora, and fauna while we were rafting and we even had a nice pit stop in the middle of the river for some snacks and drinks. Our 8-year old daughter was with us and she loved it!

This rive has fantastic colors once it gets out of the ground. If you'll visit the Vikos canyon observation points, which have amazing views of their own, you'll be quite surprised to see that the river is (may be) actually dry on those spots. But further down, definitely below the village of Vikos and under the bridge of the road that leads to Papigo and Micro Papigo, the river is flowing in marvelous colors and allows a wonderful rafting experience (as long as you're in for the views and not for the rafting itself which is VERY calm). Overall, wonderful experience with amazing nature and river views.

The monastery was interesting and built with lovely local stone. It is not far from the main square in Monodendri. The highlight is the view of the Vikos Gorge from the Terrace through a little archway at the northern end of the monastery. Keep walking though until you find it. Strangely for such a quiet place, there was a lady in a little gift shop with little things for sale. We did not find any to buy.

A great viewpoint of the canyon. Just a short walk suitable for kids also and really amazing. We recommend parking next to the sign and the beginning of the short trail and not at the end of the concrete road, any car can do it.

Top people with very good horses. The young people love there job and the horses. I think the price is a litle bit high to make you go again and help you to go up to the stages of riding a horse. I think they need to make the place more comfortable for the customers with toilets place to wash your hands drink or buy eater and somethink to drink or eat. Paint the place a litle and make it more comfortable. Hope to be better bext year .

We walked from Monodendri to Vikos. Prior to our walk, the owner of Karpouzis Guesthouse at Vikos gave us a ride to Monodendri (40 min, 35 EUR).
We had a problem finding good descriptions of the route. Neither it is well marked. Most of the way one should follow red marks "03". It took us 7.5 hours including a 1-hour picknick lunch break.
The weather was hot and there was no running water in the gorge, just few poles inhabited by frogs. Water that we dared to drink was available in only one (!) location, in the middle of the route.
The first half of the path is quite uneven, stony, up and down. The second half is much easier, except the final steep ascend to Vikos.
Views are magnificent, especially closer to Vikos where the landscape is more open. Otherwise one needs to enter the river path to enjoy the views. But: don't even think continuing along the river path instead of the trail. In other words: don't leave the trail.
We managed to see a turtle in the forest soon after leaving Monodendri.
At Vikos, we enjoyed a dinner at Karpouzis Guesthouse a lot - recommended!

These are on the road towards Papingo and are so interesting to see. Unfortunately there was no water when we went end September/early October but after the winter snows melt, they are bursting with running water when we have been in Spring. You can even swim in early summer. The formations in the rocks are truly beautiful and a lovely place to cool off and have a picnic in warmer months. One thing that concerned us this time, was a huge tube that seemed to come from up the mountain side that was pumping liquid into the poolside???

This is a small, high-mountain, beautiful lake. Once you get up there the views to Gamila, Astraka, Smolikas and the Albanian Mountains in the distance are stunning. It is a good day walk from Papingo and back, with a possible stop at the Astraka refuge for a refreshment, snack or even a hot meal.

Had two great days thanks to Stellios. The first day he arranged for a transfer to allow us to walk up the Vikos gorge, the deepest in the world, this went really well and we enter at our own pace and stunning scenery. Second day was river rafting again well organised and lots of fun and adventure. The water was cold but so clear. We walked back along the river and so had another great day out.
