I stumbled on Coucou Limoux quite by chance. What a stroke of luck – this is a gem of a workshop that offers a great range of courses and classes for all abilities and seems to attract amazing people. Lovely atmosphere – relaxed, welcoming, and terrific fun. Merrilees, hugely talented and creative, gently steers her students to produce quite wonderful results. I particularly enjoyed mixed-media card-making, decoupage and jewellery workshops. It's a very special place.

An abbey with a chequered past. It's a place of preserved simplicity and in parts quite beautiful. The church is still in use. I suspect some more restoration funds would bring this visitor experience on considerably. Worth the visit. Thank you.Hello, Thank you for your nice review. Indeed, we're still looking for extra grants to complete our restoration plan. We need more visitors ;) With best regards. Fabien

You will have an explanation on how to make the sparkling wine of Blanquette & Cremant de Limoux, a tasting and if it's possible a tour of the winery. We speak english and will be delighted to answer all your questions. Found Domaine J Laurens on the web and we were treated to a personal tour of the wine making facility through every step - we didn't have a booking, just arrived and were warmly greeted by Corinne. The tasting was enjoyable as is the amazing pre-Champagne history of the Limoux Blancs. We took home the La Rose No. 7. They bottle 200k each year and more than 75% is exported. An enjoyable day and a great host. Merci beaucoup.

Domaine de Baronarques

The estate Acquired in December 1998 by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and her two sons, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, this old estate, that already existed in the 17th century, has been subject to a major renovation of its vineyards and winemaking facilities. The 2003 vintage, Year 1 of Domaine de Baronarques, is one of the first to be awarded AOC Limoux rouge appellation. Due to the quality of its soil and its wines, Domaine de Baronarques takes it rightful place alongside the famous Rothschild family’s other estate, including the illustrious Château Mouton Rothschild. We welcome you from Monday to Friday between 10am and 5.30pm, and the weekend by appointment, for a visit and tasting.

I visited the winery the first week of June, and had an informative tour and tasting. The young woman who led the tour and conducted the tasting was knowledgeable, and very pleasant. I had an interest in the wines that were being produced at Chateau de Baron'arques, having previously visited Mouton Rothschild in Medoc in late May. The vineyards are located in the Limoux wine growing region, and tthe first and second label wines from this winery were very enjoyable.

The abbey is just beside the tourist info place in Alet-les-bains, a beautiful little town near Limoux. The cost was about 6 euros for 2 adults and 1 child. It is much larger than it appears outside, with many rooms to explore. We spent about an hour here. Getting here is easy from Carcassonne using the 1 euro train.

In the nice village Limoux we went for visiting Maison Guinot, based on the positive feedback from Tripadvisor. It was very informative and the guide translated everything in prefect English. For the children (16 and 14 yrs old) it took a bit too long (1 hour) but we found it very interesting. Never knew that Limoux is the first worldwide to created sparkling wine, even before Champagne! Also bice to see all phases of the production untill the packaging. The tasting afterwards was also nice and we bought 3 different Imperial Limoux and nice glasses.

The Atelier des Vignerons is a showcase for Languedoc wines. Basilique Notre-Dame de Marceille

Reviewed By psychprofessor - Mississippi

With our small tour group, we visited Basilique Notre-Dame de Marceille in Limoux. Inside, the church is beautiful. There's a black Madonna whose head was stolen in 2007. The head that's there now is a reproduction of the original. The 14th century basilica (so called because the Pope has visited it) has beautiful statues, a high and lovely ceiling, stained-glass windows, and a miraculous Fountain outside. It's a pilgrimage stop. A man was there when we visited, and he let us into a small museum. No photos were allowed, unfortunately. There were priests' vestments, silver engraved hearts, and framed flowers with photos. Many were given in thanks for some miracle. When we visited the grotto, the guide moved the grate over it, wet her hands in the water, then touched our hands with the water. When the man who let us into the museum appeared, she sheepishly said she wasn't supposed to do what she had done with the grate and water. The man just laughed.
