Chateau De Sales was the first chateaux that we visited during our stay in Bordeaux last weekend and I'm so pleased we started here. A delightful chateaux that has been in the hands of the same family for over five centuries. Margery, our wonderful guide,...MoreHello Jacqueline, It was a really pleasure to welcome your at château de Sales. You will think about us cooking with the apron you bought and I will think about you when I will go to London. Best Regards Marjorie

An ideal spot for Families and especially during the summer months there's a number of water attractions for the kids to play on, also other features such as paddle boards and small boats for hire.
The place is kept immaculate including the sand and lifeguards are present, there are many grassy area's for picnics, even on the hottest days whilst busy it was not overbearing.

We are happy to welcome you in Chateau du Tailhas, in Pomerol. We will present you the vineyard, the winery, how the wine is made from the vine to the bottle. The visit ends with the tasting of our wines. We are open for visits during the week days from 9am to 12 and from 2pm to 5pm. We are open during the weekend for visits with a reservation
We visited this gem located in Pomerol appellation in September when the chateau was preparing to harvest most of their grapes. It is a very small (just 11 ha) vineyard bordering with Saint-Emilion. A tiny little stream called Taillas separates the two famous appellations of Bordeaux. One can actually see the formidable competitors Chateau-Figeac and Chateau Cheval Blanc from the grounds of Chateau du Tailhas. The proximity to these two super famous chateaux doesn't make the work of Chateau du Tailhas easier. If anything, it makes it more challenging and difficult. But one shouldn't compare this gem of a winery to bigger and more powerful Figeac and Cheval Blanc. Chateau du Tailhas is a winner in its lightweight category. The wines we tastes were fantastic! We truly regret they are not available in the United States. So if you visit Bordeaux, make sure you put this chateau on your list. You will discover a unique family wine-making operation and learn about challenges and struggles a small business like Chateau du Tailhas is facing on a daily basis in Bordeaux. You will also be amazed by the creativity and ingenuity they come up with when crafting their amazing wines. It's a gem in Pomerol. Don't overlook it. It's worth every minute of your time.

This is a small but good art collection, ranging from medieval to modern, on the 1er etage/ second floor of the Town Hall, up a magnificent staircase. The medieval Town Hall was remodeled to make it look even more medieval by Eugene Violette-le-Duc, the 19th c. government architect who remodeled so much of France in the name of restoration but to conform to his artistic vision. This Town Hall is a confection not to be missed. Go inside and see the public rooms, if you can. They still have Violette-le-Duc's original decoration and furniture. Then go up his staircase to the town Museum of Fine Arts.
The Town Hall faces the central square. Merchant houses with arcades line the other sides. There are a few cafes and many interesting food shops in these arcades, including an outpost of Georges Larnicol, the Parisian chocolatier. But even the bakeries and delis were interesting. I always check French supermarkets, and there was one of these, too, on this square, within an arcade.
The square hosts a flea market during the week and a fresh food market on weekends. There is a Must-See permanent, covered market of many food stalls adjoining a CORNER of the central square. This market is a true education.
Libourne is a historic English bastide town at the confluence of the Isle and Dordogne Rivers and is a gateway to St. Emilion and Pomerol. It has a brand new dock and gangway arrangement installed to accommodate the newly emerging cruise ship business in the Gironde. It is also upgrading sidewalks in anticipation of more tourism.
