I had the chance to visit Chile many times, but now I have the chance to visit Chile in the summer, I love it, because I visited the Coquimbo beach, La Herradura, and I had a wonderful time, best time to visit, december or march, less local tourists.

Herradura Experience

Reviewed By Lyluchi - Quilpue, Chile

We arranged a small-group tour with Ecoturismo in La Serena for seven pasengers off the cruise ship. A nice drive through some beautiful scenery with stops at the dam (quite an engineering feat) and in the town of Vicuña to meander around. Worth doing.

Good waves when we were there in the day. We returned at night with a portable 14" telescope and the view was very good even with a near 1/2 moon. Good view of the moon, saturn & it's rings, the southern cross and the scorpio constelation!

We walked up from the cruise port and was pleasantly surprised how reasonable it was to go up- $3.00 for the elevator (2) and the small museum is included. The views are worth it and for the price paid was worth the photo opp. Museum is small, but a bit of history that was interesting.

Coquimbo Casino

This 24-hour casino offers seven game tables and 100 slot machines.

Was curious how Casinos in different countries are, well, different, so we paid this casino a visit. We literally paid this casino as you have to pay 3000 pesos just to get in.
Once inside it's the standard slot machines, a few blackjack tables, roulette, baccarat (no poker, craps, or other card games). The drink/food prices inside aren't the cheapest either so you would need to be fairly well-off to be here it seems.
We played some roulette and slot games but to be honest, there weren't many people inside so you don't really get the usual casino ambiance/excitement that encourages spending (both time and money).
All in all, if you're here on a rare rainy day or need to kill some time (I personally would probably just stroll along the waterfront or sit at a cafe instead) then try the casino.

Our 3rd visit in 4 years and hope it's not the last. When you can find such a tranquil and beautiful Garden in what is primarily a touristic Beach Town, it gives you an additional reason to want to return. One does not have to have a vegetable and/or floral garden to appreciate this specific space. The Garden is a donation from 2 large Japanese Company's. Within the Garden one can meet some of the principles of Feng Shui face to face and if you are a Senior you get a discounted entrance price.

I came across this place by accident. For me, that adds to the attraction. I did enjoy the photo op's that visiting here did offer. There were some nice shots of the ocean, fort and Coast looking out tward La Serena, Chile. If you have a rental car this should be an easy stop, however I took the bus from La Serena to Coquimbo and the bus took me to the turn off to the fort. It was the start of a good outing.

After a very inexpensive local bus ride to La Serena's square from the port of Coquimbo Chile we had a pleasant time walking around this area and through this picturesque church, nothing outstanding but nice to see. There were many other niche stores and sites around the church and square.
