The famous sari hub of the country, Kanchipuram is just 83 kilometers from Chennai. Apart from the silk weavers, the temple town is considered one of the holiest destinations in India. If you want to target a single stop to see temples, this is relevant for both Shiv and Vishnu followers.

This 8th-century sandstone temple has a sanctuary that only one worshipper can enter at a time, through a tight tunnel.
Kanchipuram is a treasure trove of beautiful ,stunning temples . Ancient , spiritual places have a story to tell. This temple ,built in 8th century AD , in remembrance of Lord Siva whose abode is in Kailash , is superbly crafted with life like images carved on the walls with aplomb . The sanctum sanctorum had a linga. There is a Goddess temple as well inside the premises. Sad to see though the dilapidated state of the temple .

Varadaraja Perumal Temple is situated 3 kms from the Kanchipuram (Kancheepuram) bus stand and the presiding deity is Lord Vishnu. This hilltop temple is also called Hastagiri (Hast-elephant, Giri-hill).The shrine is among the 108 Divya Desams where the Alwars (saint-poets) have sung in praise of Lord Vishnu.Varadaraja Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram links it to a legend of Lord Brahma. After he created the universe, Brahma wanted Lord Vishnu to come down to earth. So he began to perform the Aswameda Yagam (the horse fire ritual) and when the ceremony was drawing to a close, Sri Varadaraja and his consort, Lakshmi appeared out of the flames of the fire. Thus Vishnu acceded to the wishes of Brahma. The deity is Swayam-vyakta (self-manifested) and not installed by a divine or human being.

this temple is more seen by tourists... eventually because they are taken there. It have the same rules and traditions of the ones around but you see less spirituality of the people... it looks more like a show off for tourists, still is the biggest in town.

Very, very nice place. A combination of white plaster , dark stone and golden structures. Next to the temple is a pond with beautiful Fountains. The setting is wonderful. The reliefs and statues are fantastic. Beautiful to photograph. Very popular with local people. I loved this place

Ulagalandha Perumal Temple. This temple is dedicated for Lord Vishnu and one of the 108 Vaishnavaites temple. This is very close the Kamakshi temple - around 300m. The temple is quite low from the ground level and hosts the Vamana Avatar of Lord Vishnu. The main deity is very tall - around 40 feet with one foot in air and one foot on head of King MahaBali. The deity is quite fascinating to see for the mammoth structure. The Viman of the temple is very different when compared to most of the temples in Tamilnadu - broad and short. There are 3 Divyadesams within this temple - Neeragam, Karagam and Kaaravannam.

Vedanthangal is around 60 kms from Tambaram and roughly takes a little more than 1 hour. We took the route of GST till the Padalam - Vedanthangal road - the one next to Uttiramerur SH. Ensure you carry enough water, snacks, breakfast when you go there. There are local petty shops selling some basic things - but no meal. Vedanthangal is the home for migratory birds - particularly across October to February. They say it hosts around 40,000 birds every year. The entrance ticket is very minimal - Rs.5 per adult and Rs.2 per child. Rs.25 is collected for a camera. The whole place looks crowded in the sort of bushes and mangrove like small Islands in the waters. We primarily cited painted storks, pelicans, pond herons and lots of egrets. There is a watch tower, which is a great sight seeing opportunity. There are few platforms well positions for us to have a great view of the wingers and take photos. The whole place is very well maintained with well laid walk way, water facilities and toilet facilities.
We spent around 75 minutes here. There are binoculars for rent - Rs.50 and Rs.100. We took one for Rs.100 - which was very useful. Suggest everyone to hire one, if you dont have one, when you visit here.

Due its beautiful sculptures all round the walls, intricately carved on high quality granites. this temple is included in the list of heritage monuments by Archaeological survey of India. There is beautifully maintained garden inside the premises. This is also a Perumal ( Vishnu) temple. It is worth visiting for its unique sculptures and for those who are devoted to deity

While coming to Kanchipuram from Tiruvannamalai just a few kilometers before reaching Kanchi, we saw this temple. The temple is not an ancient temple and it is constructed in the style of Odishian style. The main diety Panduranga swamy is extra ordinarily beautiful and elegant. We were told he will be dressed up and decorated differently on each day. The temple interiors are painted with bright colors and is very interesting. The temple is in a huge campus.

Sri Chitragupta Swamy is the Adhi-Devatha for the above three stars, Aswini, Magham and Moolam stars.
One of the safety-net poojas is to appease the adhi-devatha of the star in which the Devotee is born.
In this Temple He is sitting with his Consorts. in addition to the people born in the above three stars , all of us , when having Kethu Dasa / Kethu antra Dasa , ChitraGuptar pooja will give more positive results as per my understanding..
He is the Auditor of the Divine Accounts of each of us... Better let us get the Divine Auditor's blessings..
