This garden is only 15 minutes from Gerardmer, driving through magnificent country. The entry fee is 10 euros , we visited in September and the Gardens were lovely, it is a cottage style garden with different rooms and water running through it, ponds and magnificent grass ( it was incredible lawn, my husband took his shoes just to feel it).

This is an amazing structure on top of the hill above Gerardmer lake. Walk or drive up the lane near Ramberchamp camp site following signs till you reach a circular parking area. Then follow the right hand rocky path up through the trees. You will then spot an enormous wooden tower which has a concrete spiral staircase in the centre. If you dislike heights - you probably won't make it! If you do- the reward is fabulous 360 degree views over the hills, towns and lake of Gerardmer!

We visited during the daffodil festival (fetes des jonquilles) a bi-annual flower festival. Beautiful surroundings and very relaxed. Nice for walking!

My family visited one of those days when it was overcast and not much else to do due to the weather. You need to be reasonably fit to get the best of this , it's physical if you take on the 3 hour challenge at 23€ per person! but it's great value . We spent 4 hours there , great rope slides, wire rope walks , cliff faces to take on, and views of the lake and surrounding area. Worth a day out

The Vosges are much easier to access than the Alps if you are coming, as we are, from Belgium. 430 km and 4.5 hours driving time from Brussels. Lodging (and everything else?) is cheaper too. In fact we found food reasonably priced compared to home.
Gerardmer the town is a 6 minute drive to the slopes (La Mauselaine). You can find apartments walking distance to the slopes, or you can drive or take free shuttle from town every morning. Easy and good ski rentals at slopes. Flexible ski lift prices.
The 2 caveats here:
- limited skiing. This is fine for a family with young kids (lessons are available at the Ecole du Ski Français) and medium skiing skills and expectations. High season brings some waiting at lifts, and many people on blue and green slopes (but red and black are never crowded). It is to be noted however that new lifts will be installed this summer, and new slopes too. Overall it is more than enough to keep the family busy for a week. But expect to do the same slopes many times.
- altitude is about 1000 m, meaning that you may not have snow all the time. February is usually a safe bet, though. They have snow machines on several slopes, so low temperatures are enough to ensure that you can ski even if there is no natural snowfall. But if temps rise, you may lack snow more often than in the Alps.
Overall, if you are in a cold season, and looking for an easier drive than the Alps, at significantly lower prices, and are happy with a medium size resort, consider Gerardmer.

We just went on their Terrace to have a drink, but it will be the one and only time we go there!
I know you pay for the location (next to the lake) but the fact that we paid more than what was written on their menu (8,30 instead of 6,30 for a kir and a coca) plus hearing that the couple next to us paid 13,60 for a rose and a beer is just a joke!
Staff were far from helpful and sympathetic also, so definitely nothing good there.
Will give them the benefits of the doubt for food, as we didn't have any. I wonder if the prices change in low season...

We dropped in to get guidance on walking around Lake Gerardmer. We were taken card of by a very nice man who spoke excellent Engish. He gave us a very useful booklet that described many interesting things to do not only in Gerardmer but in the area surrounding the city. We used it as a guide for the rest of our visit. We took one of the nice self-guided car tours that took us through beautiful Forests. The Office is centrally located and there is free parking. We left our car there while we did the walk around the lake. Usually we don't use these Office de Tourisme but this experience will change our habits.
