We went on a very laid back 6pm ride for 2 hours over the local hills and past a typical lavender field. Beautiful light and fantastic views from the hills over the countryside. Sensible but not knackered horses. Instructor speaks good English.

This castle has been nicely restored by the owners. It is surrounded by a garden with splendid peacocks. The place can be seen once a day, at 3:30 pm - guided tour. The guide is really interesting and entertaining. For non-French speakers, leaflets in English can be provided when you purchase your entrance ticket, to get the gist of the stories told. Enjoy!

Our hostess at the Inn in Manosque recommended this place when we asked where to sample Provencal products. It is easy to find because Manosque is not a big city and Oraison is even smaller, but it is very close to major tourist areas of Provence. We had a map of several local companies making both edible and other products, and happily set off to see them. Doucet makes chocolates and also fruit confections. What is special is that they use local products in very creative ways, so that the end result is pretty, tasty and distinctively local, from Provence. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and will explain the ingredients in each item, so that you can truly try before you buy. They have beautiful packaging,of their lovely products and a wide variety of sizes and styles. You can buy a very small quantity in a beautiful box, not just larger amounts. If you care about just the contents and not the looks they also sell imperfects or seconds at very reduced prices but it appears that this "corner" is unpredictable. They had some monthly specials of regular products also, and the prices were pretty reasonable for very high quality. Many products feature local nuts. If you don't like or are allergic to nuts, they also had many fruit only products. Bon appetit. Important to note, this is a very small place, not a huge factory, and there is no factory tour, but they have a series of photos projected on the screen above the cashier, so you can see the products being made even though you cannot enter the actual factory. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief and tasty visit and highly recommend it to sweet tooths of all sorts.

If you go here, you go for the near 270-view. The Citadelle itself is nice but not extraordinairy. The stroll up is nice as well, through little streets of Forcalquier and steep :)

The museum of Salagon is a unique site located in Mane near Forcalquier in the middle of Haute-Provence and the Luberon. Made up of a priory which is a listed historical monument and 6 hectares of Gardens, its vocation is to enhance the past and contemporary culture of Provencal society.
Went on a baking day in August. There are extensive Gardens themed around medieval, kitchen, Gardens from different parts of the world, it was surprisingly fascinating. You can take picnics, there;s plenty of places to sit in the shade and enjoy your food & drink. There's a small museum of a forge and lavender distillery and more. The kids even enjoyed it - there were frogs, fish and dragon flies around the many ponds. Spent a happy morning/lunch there.

If you are driving in the Durance valley (A-51 motorway), take a break and visit the ancient medieval monastery of Ganagobie - north of Sisteron on the West side of the river. A short drive up from the local road leads into a still-active Benedictine monastery whose church - which can be visited - hosts some of France's most unusual ancient mosaics - including Elephants and fantastic animals like Griffons etc. There is a lovely little shop run by the monks with local products and in June/July the nearby lavendar fields (seen on an earlier visit) are in bloom, adding to the country charm. A peaceful haven and reminder of another era when humanity's main concern was seeking heaven and not the nearest MacDonalds.

We went specifically for spa treatments and did not stay in the hotel. We had about a 3 hour drive and upon arrival they went out of their way to make us lunch...even though the kitchen wasn't open yet. The spa experience was great...however...no one speaks great English here. You can get by...but be prepared to have a difficult time. It was especially difficult in the spa area. There seemed to be a lot of miscommunication and items lost in translation. Even with that being said..it was a fantastic spa experience...these are very trained professionals and the setting is gorgeous.

We bought tickets to workshop about the flowers in Haute Provence (herbs) as well as making parfume. When we bought them we forgot to ask in which language the workshops would be. However, I did aologize at the start and later on for my bad French since we dont know that language (literally, though in my bad French). When we found out, we went back. The workshop would be in French. SAo we asked our money back explaining that we wouldnot be able to follow what was being said. Bluntly it was refused, saying that I spook really good French the other day. Confronted with that I actually twice apologized for my bad French, it ewas just refuked. Thanks to the great Tourist Office of Forcalquier (great team) we were able to get 70 euro's back from the 120 we payed. We were baffled. I am sure that what was happening here is that the man counted on the fact that we dont want to spoil our holliday with a fight. And, indeed, you get bad energy of that. However, it is stealing nevertheless. So, be warned: if you dont speak French, don't go.

If you spend any time in the heart of Provence, you will surely notice the colorful posters with aperitifs and digestives around the bars and cafés. Provence makes use of her bounty in many ways and these drinks are no exception!
The staff here is exceptionally well-informed and can take you on a tour of Provence thru your tastings. These liqueurs are intense flavors meant to tempt you into lunch or dinner, or calm your system after a flavor overload. Stop, taste, enjoy like a local.
