A part of the world heritage Falun, Falu Gruva is open for the public offering guided tours under ground, a new interactive museum, shops and restaurants.
One of the oldest companies - maybe THE oldest company - in the world. The Falu copper mine and its subsidary companies.
A history of Sweden. A history of the world in mining what we all have enjoyed in everyday life.
Marvellously displayed, explained and maintained.
You'll find it in every aspect: financial, social, human...
Start with taking the little train ride on the premises - you'll get a grip of the place.
A must visit!

Interesting to see the area set up for the ski championships, everything bright and fresh. Two very modern ski jumps which you can get up close to. Nearing completion were new facilities at the top. Not much open at the time of our June visit but a drive, or walk, to the hill top gives great district views. Additionally some nice walks in the parkland. There is a small parking fee in lower car park.

Dalarna Museum is the County Museum of Dalarna - open to the world It reflects the region's collective cultural heritage with its distinctive history, tradition and culture, which even today can be experienced by visitors around the landscape. As a tourist, you should begin your visit in Dalarnas museum to understand the tensions and dynamics that exist between the province's different areas. Here is Sweden's most traditional and most industrialized regions joined side by side.
The Print Arts Hall has a collection of the Falun Engravers prints that are a must-see for any print art lover.. The history of the region is well-represented. A favorite exhibit was a collection of Dalarnas horses that were sliced up and wrapped up like...MoreThank you for your review!

Of course there are major ski areas not far away, but sometimes small is liberating pleasant.Definitely for the family that does not want to worry about the kids going astray. As all ski resorts in these latitudes is struggling with warmer winters, but manages nonetheless get all slopes in good condition. Looking for steep slopes and challenges, you have to take one day at BJURSÅS as a training day for carving turns. Ski rental, shop and restaurant and cheaper lift tickets than is customary.

A different visit to a little bohemian country setting. A lot of animals, not quite familiar to everyone strolling around the area. Small but exclusive selection of locally produced cheeses, or good coffee / lunch.

The garden made me think of Findhorn (a community some may remember from the last century ) which I have never seen but imagined somewhat like this.
Well tended. Worked with love. Abundance. Beauty. A tranquility of days long past.
Beyond the baroque garden there is more to explore - there is a marked path giving information about the old times.
A small shop near the entrance offers very tasteful souvenirs and the Restaurant is a scenic as it is good. That is : very good.

Nice place with a small beach
I liked the location, they have a small kiosk there. You can BBQ using the BBQs located around the beach or bring your own.
Could be a little problem getting there on the gravel road if you are sitting in a wheelchair

After visiting the mine, I expected much more from the museum. There was a temporary exhibition for kids, which I tought it was interesting, but the museum itself, was rather small and basic. Being a UNESCO site, I expected to see much more in the museum.

Outside Falun has 10 years of experience arranging activities such as trekking, fishing, climbing, kayaking, education course activity with snow and avalanche-security, ice fishing, snow shoeing and different events such as lectures regarding outdoor topics. Vi focus on both private guests and groups. Throughout the last 10 years we have gained long experience with international guests.
We had a great day outdoors snowshoe walking with Klas and his dog Silka. Klas guided us off the beaten track, telling us about all the animal trails in the snow, the geology of the land and the culture of Falun and Sweden. And we enjoyed a nice cup of coffee made on a small fire. Klas is good company and showed us the beauty of the Falun nature in winter.
