About 10 miles north of Nuremberg, Erlangen is the home of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Friedrich-Alexander-University), founded in 1742. Just over 100,000 people live here, about a third of whom are involved with the university; about another third work for the Siemens corporation. Bergkirchweih, Erlangen’s annual festival - akin to Munich’s Oktoberfest - opens in a different beer cellar every year and is attended by over a million people in its twelve-day run around Pentecost.

Pros:
Staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
Menu somewhat limited but good flavour choices/options.
Dishes are well presented and timely served.
Portion size is generous.
Extremely fairly priced given the quality of the dishes.
Cons:
Small interior meaning personal space is highly limited
I had the prawns in red curry sauce with pasta....absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend.
Suggest you book in advance as it gets incredibly busy.

Visited the place with a few colleagues on a belated Xmas dinner.
Firstly, they had seemingly lost the reservation. So we changed tables 3 times in order to be able to accommodate the size of our group. The menus came and despite half the group not speaking German, we received only German menu's. No big deal, as people helped each other.
Upon ordering the main, we had one waitress, who didn't really appear to pay attention as some things were ordered didn't come or came twice. In my case I missed one side. But oh well... So onto the food.
Starter was muscles, which are removed from the shell. For the most part it was good but a few clear had small parts of the shell attached, which ruined the enjoyment at the end.
The steak itself was good but nothing to write home about. The sides I ordered weren't that great. Broccoli was soggy on one side and drowned in Hollandaise sauce and fried potato slices weren't fried enough. In general it was 5/10.
When it came to determining if we wanted a desert suddenly an English menu appeared. I didn't take desert but my colleagues who did said it was ok.
I took an espresso, which was ok, but lacked the small amount of water I like to have with it. Am I picky? Perhaps, but this is what I'm used to.
Would I go again? Maybe, but I'd first try other similar restaurants in the neighbourhood before venturing back.
Also don't be deceived, the place is pretty big inside and can accommodate a lot of people. The place wraps around the centre bar although this isn't clear when you step inside. The main door to the restaurant is ominous, and isn't labelled at all. It is the plain door on the left when you first walk in.

We had an excellent dinner with 12 persons and we enjoyed it very much. I wouldn't have expected to find such kind of excellent restaurant in Erlangen.
The welcome, service, food and wine (Gavi and Barolo), everything was excellent.
Especially the taste of the food was skyrocketing.
We had a fixed menu, but any individual food preferences (meat instead of fish) or bigger serves were easily recognized and considered.
We will be back for sure to repeat this nice evening, which we had at "Da Pippo" in Erlangen.

Firstly the food is ok compared to other local Asian restaurant. The ingredients were pretty fresh. However, with that serve I didn't feel comfortable spending that money. They were slow and unfriendly.

Picked Alter Simpl from Tripadvisor reviews and must say that the location in front of the refurbished church/culture-house, the small open plaza and the service gave a good first impression. Alter Simpl was filled with groups of business-men, families with children, couples and friends hanging out and the atmosphere was cosy and enjoyable.
I was alone (being on a business-trip) and I was seated at the only remaining small table - not the best place they said, but ok (mind you, a small table for typical couples, more of that later). The menu-card was two pages, with one filled with beer, wine and sodas and therefore a foreseeable selection of traditional german food .. ie sausages and meat. Yeah! I just had to have the schnitzel with potatosalat and expectations were building.
After this was ordered, another lone fellow looking to dine, was offered the other seat at the small table and he asked me politely if it was ok. Somehow I didnt say what really was on my mind: That I had a long day being up since 4:30, the table was small and I was looking for a place to sit, relax and be tourist-like and polish my introvertness.
Instead I said "ok" - and that sort of ruined the experience. I dont know the place good enough to know if people just sit together, but i will learn of this till next time. I would have preferred not to be in a situation with a waiter and another guest starring at me for a seat, so that seriously draws down in my book, as I think the waiter should have asked me low-key first. It might be ok with other people to be matched with people they dont know, so fair enough for them, but i think most people will be a bit ... taken back.
Well... the schnitzel! What about it? It was huge but dry and not very exciting. The potatosalat was ok, but small, and there was an assortment of various pickled vegetables, which was ok.
Dont think I will be back, but the location is fine and with a group it is a nice place for beers.
I gave 14,2 euro for the schnitzel and a radler.

Our stylish restaurant has barrier-free access. We also prefer simple, modern and clean lines, so that our guests can feel at ease and concentrate on the essentials. The room is flooded with light due to the windows overlooking the beautiful back courtyard, the walls are decorated in modern style with bright colors. Our attention to detail doesn't only show in our choice of food, but also in our fresh and friendly decorative elements as well as our individual herb garden and especially in the big amount of flowers and plants in our back courtyard from spring to autumn. The ,,Muskat" cuisine is characterized by freshness and regional, seasonal, products. We also serve our culinary delights at other places. We combine the following characteristics into a whole: modern - designed - elegant - mediterranean - ecological - traditional - sustainable.
we choosed from few available options for vegetarian ... as we relied on our last years visit and bang on they delivered it... amazing taste and quality try the cold beverages also which are organic and specially the green herbs wow... would visit this place again.... one of the best option for a vegetarian...

This is a real mixed bag! I have had personal recommendations good and bad for Boliwood. I went last night with work colleagues; 13 of us attended. The service was ok, but there was only the owner and I presume his wife serving. He didn’t clear the table before bringing our main meals and when asked to do this, he got quite stressed! One member of our party did not wish to eat and he was very rude to her about this, even though she was buying drinks and the restaurant had some empty tables. He was happy enough to mix with what I guess were regular customers and very attentive to their needs. Surely if you are nice to everyone equally, more people will return. My meal was ok; I had lamb and vegetables in a curry. I did ask for medium, but it wasn’t as spicy as I had expected. If I thought I could speak to the owner about his rudeness and it would make a difference to his manner, I would go back, but unfortunately the way some of the party were treated, was as I had been warned; the owner seems to think it’s alright to be rude to his customers. I wanted to try Boliwood and make my own mind up and I have; I shan’t return.

Nothing fancy about this place, but a lot of locals seem to like it. The pork shoulder was tasty and plentiful, and the cabbage in cream sauce served as a side was unexpectedly good! Note that they do not take credit or debit cards and they are closed on Mondays.

Awesome place to share with friends, very nice atmosphere both inside and outside. If you choose to sit outside get a table and order your beer, you are expected to pay when served, but you can ask to pay at the end if you plan to stay for long. At night there are red Chinese lanterns hanging from the trees, I think it's a nice touch. Inside it is cozy and a little warmer, plenty of tables in the basement if you can't find a place in the first floor around de copper vats or at the bar. The food is great, you go and order it yourself at the kiosk outside and pay unless you have a tab open. The place is served by students from the university and some of them speak English, this gives the place a dynamic environment in a rustic building.
