Established in 1875, this independent family owned brewery is steeped in history, heritage & traditional skills, as well as a wide collection of carefully hand crafted ales. With an on-site Sample Bar, Brewery Shop & Visitor Centre, there's certainly much more to Wadworth - a visit to see our Shire Horses, who deliver our ales across town each week day, is highly recommended! The Visitor Centre is FREE admission, however fees apply to our guided tours. Scheduled tours are available daily at 11am & 2pm, catering for up to 50 people, prices start from £10pp. Brewery Tours include a visit to the main production areas, our on-site Sign Studio; where guests can gaze at our unique hand painted pub signs, followed by a visit to the Stables, finishing with a tutored beer sampling session. Our Visitor Centre & Brewery Shop is open Monday to Saturday from 9am-5pm (except bank holidays), and is well stocked with your favourite Wadworth ales and gifts. **Advanced booking strongly advised!**
A very good tour that was interesting, informative and entertaining. The who lead the tour was very well informed about the brewing process, history of the beers, etc. I would recommend this tour. Seemed to take a couple of hours, but I can’t say I...MoreThank you for your review, we're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the tour and that you would recommend us. We hope to see you again at Wadworth. Kind regards Michelle

Tells 500,000 years of Wiltshire's story told in award-winning galleries featuring high quality graphics and leading-edge reconstructions.* Gold from the time of Stonehenge- On display for the first time are dozens of spectacular treasures dating to the time of Stonehenge and worn by people who worshiped inside the stone circle.* Lots for children too- Follow Archie and Ollie on a gallery trail, build Stonehenge, examine the evidence under a microscope and try on Bronze Age clothes. * Saxon Wiltshire - the Making of the Kingdom of Wessex. New gallery featuring spectacular finds from pagan Saxon burials and evidence of the beginnings of Christianity in Wiltshire. * The Devizes Story - telling the fascinating story of our town - Devizes Castle, the Civil War Battle of Roundway and the bustling Georgian market town.
Really enjoyed visiting this museum, the displays were clear and informative for both children and adults going into a greater depth if required. The staff were welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. A great place to visit before going to Avebury, Stonehenge and their environs. Lots of finds from archaeological digs in the area made it very interesting. I was made very welcome despite the museum getting ready to host a post Remembrance Day gathering

Beautiful location. You could try to park as you cross the canal in two very small roadside pull offs if you find space. If not, you drive up the locks to near the highest point and park in a "honesty" car park with fee payable at a canal cafe. The locks are very impressive and I can only imagine visiting when the canal is in use.

My companion and I came for a Tuesday lunch here after visiting the Wadworth Brewery about five minutes’ drive away. In addition to the indoor Seating, there’s a large and peaceful garden area with kids play frame in one corner, so we chose to eat outdoors and enjoy the pleasant weather. I found the menu to be surprisingly extensive and we opted for cooked meals. The food was tasty, hearty and ample. We’re happy to recommend the Rowdey Cow to others!

I've been going to Roundway since being a small child, and it is always a lovely place to go for a walk, and to admire marvellous panoramic views. As well as the views, of course there is the historical interest from the days of the English Civil War! The weather and time of the year mean the experience varies. In spring and summer there are lots of different flowers and you can see some wildlife on occasion. Is a stunning location after a snowfall in winter! In Autumn lots of leaves have fallen. Kids and big kids alike can have fun with them! Just ensure that you have suitable footwear/clothing as it can be a bit muddy/windy/colder as it is quite high up and exposed in places. Also the road at the top is quite bumpy. It's not a problem, but thought it would be worth sharing for anyone who would appreciate knowing this before going :-)

The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust HQ Canal Museum, Cafe, gift shop boat trips from Devizes Bradford-on-Avon, Newbury and Hungerford. Crofton Pumping Station built in 1807 nr Great Bedwyn it houses two Cornish Beam Engines one which is the oldest in the world and still doing its original job.
We decided to visit Devizes Wharf and to do the lovely 2 hour canalboat ride on the Kenavon Venture boat as we had enjoyed previously. We phoned at 9 AM to book our seats but nobody answered the phone. We tried later and only got an answer machine. We left home and drove 55+ miles to Lacock House (National Trust) and tried to ring yet again on 07975 854 503 from there. This time we left a 'call me back' name and number as we were anxious to secure the canalboat tour. At last - our call was returned and I asked for 2 seats on the 14:30 trip only to be told that we should have used 'the other number' - there ISN'T another number on the brocher! And no, I didn't have my credit card on me - I explained we would get to the Devizes Wharf ticket office asap and pay cash for two tickets. We got to the wharf an hour before the departure time and was told that 'all the tickets were gone' and 'the boat was now fully booked' - even though we were told that it WASNT fully booked when we phoned previously .
In essence you've demonstrated that you DON'T TRUST people unless, of course, you already have your hands on their money. All we wanted was a nice quiet trip on the canal as part our 40th Wedding anniversary celebrations.

A most enjoyable walk through the woods. Slightly steep in places but not difficult. Well worth a stroll.
Biggest problem was finding the place. Satnav took us to a private cul-de-sac with no signs whatsoever. Looked on Google Maps and eventually found it in a new housing estate (where we parked) - but still no signs.
Obviously an amenity for locals not visitors.

A long ditch and bank, presumed to have been built between 778-825AD, is about 12 miles long and provides hikers with spectacular views of important British archaeology from the tops of Martinsell Hill, Knap Hill, The Tan Hill Way and many other sites of ancient hill forts.
Wiltshire is a beautiful and unique county to explore on foot- most people visit Avebury and Stonehenge and walk the Ridgeway which affords access to some fascinating ancient sites but if you want solitude, beauty, ancient history combined with stunning countryside, great wildlife and some exercise to boot, explore the wansdyke. A good place to start is by parking in Small Grain Plantation car park, off the A361 between Avebury and Devizes. You can walk for miles along the Wansdyke or turn it into a great circular walk which also takes in the hill fort by Cherhill monument. Other sections of the Wansdyke run through the Westwoods near Lockeridge which is an absolute must to visit when the Bluebells are in bloom. Alternatively park in Pewsey Downs car park and visit lesser traversed sections to the north west. Get your boots on!

Spotted this long barrow from the canal and was surprised it wasn't better signed. Then I discovered it's a modern day burial chamber for ashes. Yep it's well sited and an impressive structure but nothing there explaining anything about it just a note to visit...MoreGlad you were impressed and I hope you enjoyed the views from it. It's tricky knowing how much signage to put, too much and they overpower the place, so I thought a link to the website was enough. Sorry if you would have liked more.
