The same architect built both Place Ducale and the Paris Place des Vosges.
We enjoyed discovering the similar square organisation, the same brick & stone houses.
The square size is huge. How beautiful!
In July, the municipality had organized a temporary recreational area in the middle of Place Ducale. This was fun. We were lucky to visit the city on a sunny and hot day.
There are a lot of good restaurants and bars around.
Before diving the next day in a Belgian lake nearby, this proved a relaxing stopover.

The Ayvelles Citadel suffered a strange fate as it hardly fought back when German troops invaded France in 1914.
This amazing fortress is impressive. It is worth walking around it outside the walls then visiting the inside.
The information is well displayed and it is interesting to study the water management, ammunitions and powder storage technology.
It is wise to plan 2 hours for a comprehensive visit.
It takes about 10 minutes to reach the place from Charleville downtown.
A picnic area with tables under the trees has been set.
It is alos nice walking in the forest: paths have been created.

We tried visiting this castle last year but it was only open at the weekend at that time. As we were back in the area we decided to go this year and we are so glad we did! Brilliant castle with lots to explore and a nice display of artifacts found at the castle. There is so much more to this castle than it first looks! Really enjoyed the big hall with the fire going in the corner. There is an easy to follow numbered guide to follow (available in several languages) to tour the castle to describe each numbered point. Highly recommended.

there's a great deal to see here, and it is very well presented. It covers a great deal of the history of the region and presents it in an interesting and compelling way.

The Grand Marionettiste is a “Giant” linked with a watch and has a height from about 10 meters, you find this watch in a corner of the “Place Winston Churchill” who is near the Place Ducal and the International institute of the Dolls. When you are on time, you can see a platform (like in a theatre) with dolls, and when you are on time you can see every single hour a different scene, and this from 10h00 until 21h00 so they present 12 different scenes who are representing the “Arden’s Legend” who is about the four sons Aymon. And every Saturday at 21h15 all the platforms are shown to the public. When you are interested and like to see how it works on the inside, then you have to visit the museum on the same location. And also the Place Winston Churchill has a nice green park where you are able to sit and pass a nice moment.

belle balade sur le Mont Olympe, bien aménagé un peu sportif, pas d'accès pour les personnes à mobilité réduite, chien admis mais tenue en laisse

Firstly this place is in Fuma, there are NO signposts for it in Charleville-Mezieres. My kids only did the zip wire as at over 1km long and 110 meters high there nothing else could equal the thrill. Somehow the flying fox in the local park will never seem the same again. The staff were really friendly & helpful too.

The Basilique of Notre Dame is erected in the Gothic style and his building has started in the year of 1499, and were concluded into the 17th century.
To reach this church you can drive by car and park it in the surrounding area of the church, or you come by walking after you have visited the “Place Ducal” than you have about 15 minutes of walking, you find the church when turning right after you have crossed the bridge over the river. The Basilique is being classified into a historical monument in the year 1910. Nice location and worth the walk.
