The scale, grandeur and beauty of Stowe has inspired writers, philosophers, artists, politicians and members of the public from the 18th century to the present day. Since the National Trust acquired the Gardens in the late 1980s, an ambitious programme of restoration has ensured that over 40 temples and monuments remain, gracing an inspiring backdrop of lakes and Valleys with an endless variety of walks and trails, a delightful visit, any time of year.
If you want a wonderful day out walking through a magnificent and historic landscape then do visit the National Trust landscape Gardens at Stowe. This is a great place to meet family and friends with an excellent cafe and shop within the visitor centre. A very fine place to walk in all seasons.

This has expanded over the years adding more and more variety, inside and out. They now have a cafe to tempt you to stay that bit longer. We took a failing plant leaf and got really good advice. The plant is now flourishing and we are looking for a good flowering season.

The museum is small but they have made effective use of the old cells to show an eclectic range of artefacts which give a good understanding of Buckingham's history. Some particularly good material on local WW1 history.
It will take about an hour to go round and costs £3.50 per adult.
Slightly cold in November as there is no heating (gaols were not renowned for their creature comforts)so dress warmly.
Definitely worth a visit if you are pottering around the town.

A medievel remnant of old Buckingham and well worth a visit as such.
Now a NT property selling old books and coffee/cake. Because it doesn't market itself, I found the place fascinating but you may have to be into architecture and old books to fully enjoy.

When you get there it's a stretch of airfield with a place for drinks/tea/coffee ... but you soon find yourself on a bike being taken through the steps to build your speed and start doing wheelies. Apart from actually managing to wheelie I think my favourite part of the day is when the instructor takes you on the back of his bike and demonstrates a wheelie and a stoppie to show you how far back and forwards the bike can go

As we have driven through Buckingham on numerous occasions,we thought it would be a good idea to have a good look around for a change.Yesterday we took a walk of the old railway line in Station road and walked a vast percentage of it.Whilst on that walk we spotted this beautiful little park immediately below the main railway bridge and on our return decide to walk around the area.It did not take long but it was a little cracker....sweet little Bridges passing over the streams and people fishing nearby, there were plenty of activities including tennis and we saw several young families enjoying the park too.The park is dog friendly and there is a small parking area towards the bottom end of Station road.Very pretty and we enjoyed our short stay here immensely.Visited 28th August 2017.

This beautiful Church sites high over the Town of Buckingham, it can be seen from nearly every corner of the town.
It is a friendly and welcoming place and generally the door is always open.
At night the Steeple of the church is lit and makes for a great landmark within the town and surrounding area.

We located this walk and entered via the Buckingham University Campus near Station Road. The walk is about a mile in length and part of a larger circular walk.A local informed us that the station has been defunct since the sixties but serves as a decent dog walk/cycle way today. The surrounding area is stunning as we viewed a small stream which past some lovely thatched properties.Parking can be found towards the bottom end of Station road. This is a great fun walk and is a small part of a very pretty little town. Known locally as the "Cathedral in the Fields" - this is a fine 13th Century Church that sits high overlooking the small village of Hillesden. It is well kept and the grounds are pretty.
It is believed that this church was visited by Gilbert Scott as a boy and it was what inspired him to become the famous architect.

A contemporary art gallery well-known for the high quality, affordability and diversity of our carefully chosen artworks. Ginny Gray Gallery represents widely collected artists from across the UK and further afield. We also aim to support and promote the cream of local artists from Buckinghamshire and the surrounding area.
This address is now a letting agency, but it's still worth visiting the area as there are other interesting shops like Finca el Monte, Bridge Street Stores and Nimble Thimble.
