Seen this waterfall several times and it always amazes me the power of the water, it is an incredible site especially after a heavy snow fall. Nearby Bad Gastein centre is a little derelict but after the sale of 3 of the main buildings hopefully we will soon new life there very soon.

Skigebiet Grossarltal-Dorfgastein offer great skiing possibilities with mostly red slopes, however there are plenty of Blue decents too. Not many Black slopes. Lift capacity is perfect , never had to wait for more then 3 minutes. Excellent restaurants and bars on the slopes

Good to walk across the full length of the bridge before skiing back to Bad Gastein. Great views of Mountains in the area and a birds eye view of the red runs below that lead to Angertal.

The Grossarltal is also known as the Valley of Mountain Huts due to its density of mountain huts. In summer, about 40 farmed mountain huts and 400 km of sign-posted hiking paths invite for hiking and mountaineering. But also mountain bikers, nature lovers and connoisseurs will find their paradise here. In winter, the Grossarltal is dedicated to skiing - skiing on the Grosarltal-Dorfgastein ski area, in Ski amade - Austria's greatest skiing pleasure. In addition, there are numerous offers off the slopes, such as ski touring, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tobogganing or wellness. Enjoy holiday happiness for all seasons in Grossarltal, the valley of Mountain Huts, in the province of Salzburg.
grossarl what a beautiful place ,picture perfect lots of things to do with the kids from mountain trekking to lake swimming . the majority of mountain huts had activities for the children ie go carts or small activity parks while the grownups sat back with a beer enjoying the view. a trip to the Grossglockner is a must lots of stop off points to take photos and enjoy the view We had a great holiday here and will be back

Well, that is why I dislike skiing in Austria, almost every time bad weather, overpriced skipasses and, compared to Italy or France, very, very dangerous pistas, I mean, no safety nets around them, even the curve surounded with big trees, shame, for that portion of money? But advanced skiers are on good place, very good cuisine at the restaurants.

We last came here 6 years ago and are back in 2016. Back in 2010 it was in desperate need of updating. Sadly it appears nothing has been done and there has been no reinvestment in the lift infrastructure in a very long time compared with others outside the Gastein region.
Consequently expect long queues, closures in windy conditions and slow ascents.

The oldest historical monument guiding the entrance to Gastein valley on small hill with own parking. Well jard restaured from the ruins. It's just a one tower for 15 minuts to visit but of four floors full of things related to the history of this building and their owners as well as from Gastein valley. Nice views to valley from gallery on the top. Racy willing custodian speak only german. It's a shame that Gastein turistic centre don't make them at least papers with simple translations in English as well as the web pages mutation or put the night lights as is at historical monuments usual. At the end you can take something to drink and to eat at enjoing tavern.

A large park just behind the Alpentheme Resort and Information centre - which has a map of the area - first time in gastein area to find a map.
This park has wooden bed like seats in the shade - plenty of benches. Has a big pond with ducks, a small pool with Fountain in centre. Area to play chess. Great for picnics and for kids to run free.

Try their local specialty - Zirbenschnaps. Made from the cones of the local tree species - the stone pine. Unique and tasty.
