Purmerend ( pronunciation (help·info)) is a municipality and a city in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The city is surrounded by polders, such as the Purmer, Beemster and the Wormer. The city became the trade center of the region but the population grew relatively slowly. Only after 1960 did the population start to grow from around 10,000 to around 80,000 by the 2010s. From the 1960s onwards, Purmerend has seen major expansion and continues to do so. This expansion has turned Purmerend into a commuter town; many inhabitants of Purmerend (14,200 in 2011), work, go to school or spend their leisure time in Amsterdam. Purmerend is part of the Randstad, one of the largest conurbations in Europe.

I took my children and their partners here for a Christmas do on December 22nd. We ordered the Proeverij Menu consisting of 5 courses of small portions of food (Euro 19.95 each) for all of us. The food was very nice, the service excellent and the wine that we bought in addition was good and not too expensive. All and all a very pleasant experience.

We love Greek food and also think it important that in addition to the quality of the food that the people are just as nice as in Greece. Kriti is a restaurant that really give that Greek feeling. The food is good and affordable, the staff is super friendly and always cheerful and humorous. You feel that this restaurant has a heart and soul, because if you walk in you are just in a different world. Erol, Ali Kerem, Teena always give you that warm feeling and are always ready for their guests. For us this is one of the best Greek restaurants in the region.

We had the special 'Menu Anniversario’, that they serve on Wednesday evening and Sunday afternoon: 8 dishes including all the drinks for 45 Euro's. As we were with about 13 people, we got the 'private dining room' in the back (de Druivenkamer). It was very busy when we arrived, which is always a good sign. The food was excellent too; we had several people with dietary requirements and that was not a problem at all. I liked the smoked fish we had as the first course and the risotto was also very good and still had a bite. But actually all of the dishes were good and well prepared. The evening was graced by a singer with a guitar who came in to the room twice and sang a couple of songs. I would recommend this place!

We like Purmerend and this restaurant is a real gem. The main square has many restaurants but this one stands out. The name says it all it, it is very cosy. The very personable staff are attentive and professdional . Now under the direction of chef/proprietor Elmer van de Zee the food is of the highest possible quality, the chef certainly knows how to produce first class food at quite a reasonable price. He specialises in a 'chef's choice' menu where you don't know what you are going to eat, this time we had parrot fish as the main course, we had never had that before, it was quite delicious, beautifully cooked and presented. This was our second visit and it won't be out last.

Based on a review my wife read we decided to visit this place (not really in the neighborhood for us), because for some it is the best Italian restaurant they have ever been. The place is a bit away from everything but easy to find, my kids decided to have some pizza and we had some pasta. We were all happy with the quality and the taste, however I was a bit disappointed with quantity in my dish (not big enough for the price they ask). We have experienced it as between average and very good, not as special as other people have talked about it.

This is a place where you can relax and enjoy the amazing value for money. The bread in basket is very fresh (just out of the oven) and good sauces/butter to go with it. We had the sate and chicken as main courses; very tender and rightly spiced. The salad with it was a real one with a good dressing and not the green stuff you get in some other places. Service was very friendly and very well timed. We enjoyed every minute and certainly will come more. This is a perfect place to plan/reserve for dinner or go when you forgot to buy food for the evening like we did :-)

I chose this place on a very rainy Thursday afternoon to meet up with my mum. It was very quiet that day as the weather was truly horrendous that day. Although there were other places as quiet as this place, after going in for a quick coffee whilst waiting for mum, I felt cosy in there and decided to go back when the old dear finally arrived. We were well looked after and weren't disturbed by the staff, and mum and I could talk freely. I had a few beers and the old dear peppermint tea (actual sprigs of it) and we also shared yummy bitterballen, a nice snack I really miss when back in Dublin... might bring my aunt there on my next visit, seeing mum is now on Aruba...
