To arrange a visit on a different day and time, please contact the museum. Don't be put off by the name 'museum', this is not a sterile exhibition of dusty artefacts but a carefully restored Cycladic olive mill. The attention to detail in the restoration is incredible and this alongside a video presentation and a personal talk by the owner make this a really special and informative experience. It is the best preserved animal powered old olive mill in Andros island. The mill was restored and transformed into museum, in order to offer to every visitor, regardless of age, the option to come close to the underling culture of the valuable product and to get familiar with the old traditional techniques of olive oil production as well. Besides they can see the traditional technics of constructing buildings in Cyclades through the centuries.
This Cyclades Olive Museum was lovingly restored by its present owner Dimitris. The knowledge and passion of this man brings to life an ancient and very important tradition of producing olive oil on this beautiful island. We came across this lovely place on a walk organised by Andros Routes ..the view from the property is breathtaking. The one remaining Nun was very welcoming and gave us coffee after we had sampled the history and atmosphere of the place..well worth a visit

This is a very nice area, it is worth the trip there. Once you get there, (the road is ok but then gets tough but any car can drive there), you are faced with a lovely little church, typical sight of Greece, which still maintains its religious character unlike other european countries I have visited. There are two Beaches there, one with some umbrellas and the other without. We chose to go to the one without any umbrellas cause we found it more picturesque. The water was not very cold (it was in August), there was luckily for us no wind (wind in Andros is a huge problem), and the sea was not deep. Great for those who can not swim like me. The rocks around the beach offer shadow and we sat there to have a Sandwich before departing. It was a great day.

Being a family, we avoided the more popular crowded area with music and the beach bar. But there was plenty of room to have a space of sand to relax and play in the water. The sand slopes down gently and gradually for a long time so it is easier to swim with younger ones without worrying about a sharp drop off. There are also people wind Surfing and paddle boats it looks like you can rent. There is also a nearby supermarket on the road so you can pick up supplies if needed, including the popular ice cream.

In July 1979 the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation inaugurated the Museum of Contemporary Art in Hora, capital of Andros and birthplace of Basil P. Goulandris. In the two wings of the Museum a part of the Foundation’s collection is exhibited throughout most of the year. Each summer, since 1986, the Foundation has been organising temporary Exhibitions of distinguished 20th-century artists in the Museum of Contemporary Art on Andros. The Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation has built up a significant art collection of important 20th-century Greek and international artists. This collection comprises the core of the Museum of Contemporary Art on Andros. The increasing attendance of the Athenian public and the inhabitants of Andros led to the Museum’s expansion to a new wing, which was completed in 1986. Moreover, the Foundation has made provisions for the construction, equipment and enrichment of a new Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens.
When we visited the featured exhibition was the work of George Zongolopoulos, not someone I'd heard of before, but who seems well known for large scale sculptures in public spaces. His smaller works and models of umbrellas on fixed wires viewed through huge magnifying lenses were certainly interesting. In the gallery below there was a eclectic selection of paintings, some very striking, which were mostly from the permanent collection. The separate wing devoted to local sculptor Michalis Tombros was well done.
All in all, it was an absorbing way to spend half a morning and the island is lucky to have a gallery of this quality.

This is one of the finest Beaches I've been to; crystal clear water, scenery, old chapel and unspoilt. The road down to it is 8 km off road and descends about 800 vertical metres. The last section to the beach is probably the only difficult-ish bit, but all is perfectly do-able in something with 4WD. We did see one 2WD but this is not recommended unless you are willing to thrash the hell out of it. The track is pretty wide for most of it and there are some lovely chapels on the way down; worth it for the views alone. Look for the signs for 'onar' and follow those until you reach the last turn for the light house. Turn to that and drop to the beach. Take plenty of water. Enjoy!!!

The water is fantastic, there are two side, on the right is not so easy to enter in the water due to a massive presence of small stones, on the left is easier but the quality of the water in uncomparable.
We had also the oppurtunity to see a sword fish. Super!

The most beautiful beach I have ever been, with the most talented discs jockey with the most successful musical choices I have ever listen. The most helpful and polite waiters and beach staff I have ever encountered. This beach is definitely a reason for someone to visit the island of Andros. I highly recommend this beach and the hostels that are located around.

In our 20+ years of going to Andros this has become one of our favourite Beaches - we go every year. It's easy to find and always quiet. The swimming is lovely because it's always sheltered from the wind. Be careful if parking your car under the tamarisk trees - the twigs can badly scratch the paintwork (we know from bitter experience!).
It's a nice stroll to the little tavern for lunch. All-in-all, a perfect, non-commercialised Greek beach.
PS: I've attached photos of the beach from winter 2016 - snow!

A wonderful cave in Andros and a must for all who like to spend their vacation doing something more than lying at the beach.
